El tiempo más propicio para rezar selijot es de media noche en adelante. Esas horas son de voluntad en el cielo; las oraciones y ruegos se reciben más facilmente. En cambio desde la puesta del sol hasta la media noche no debe recitarlas; mucho menos los "yag midot" (trece atributos de misericordia que se recitan sólo con minian, o sea, un grupo de al menos diez hombres adultos)
De haber alguna comunidad que se reúna en estos intervalos de tiempo antes mencionados para hacer selijot, debe abstenerse de recitarlas, y deberían de tratar de anular esa costumbre que no tiene fundamento en ninguna opinión de los legisladores rabínicos.
La importancia de las selijot reside en la concentración, fervor y humildad con que se dicen. Para lograr esto, hay que recitarlos lentamente, en especial, lo "yag midot" tratando de comprender el significado de cada palabra que pronuncia, recitando con emoción y con el mayor sentimiento de su corazón.
En consecuencia aquellos que dicen los parrafos de "Anenu Abinu anenu" y "Asé lemaan shemeja" apresuradamente no es correcto lo que hacen, es necesario que los reciten en forma pausada.
Igualmente es prohibido recitar selijot con gritos, que sería una forma indebida. Debe tenerse presente el pronunciar confesiones y ruegos, el revisar sus hechos, el arrepentirse y regresar al camino del bien, complementan esto, el cumplimiento de más preceptos y obras de caridad, al acercarse el Día del Juicio Anual; que en él la báscula de la Justicia Divina sopesará cuántas son sus buenas acciones y cuántas las otras.
NOTA: Rosh Jodesh Elul será con la ayuda de Dios el próximo martes y miércoles 22 y 23 de Agosto: Entonces las selijot como tal empiezan a la media noche del jueves 24 de Agosto 2017.
