Kombucha, Anyone? Here's A List of Why This Drink Should Be Added To Your Diet

in #education4 years ago (edited)

Kombucha has been in existence for more than 2000 centuries. Those who include it in their diet swear by its healing properties. Many Asian people even refer to it as the “elixir of immortality”. More recently, this interesting beverage has become a "trendy" drink in Western cultures.

But what is Kombucha?

This “elixir of immortality” is actually a recipe that includes basic ingredients...with the addition of one interesting main ingredient. Kombucha includes:

  1. Black or green tea
  2. Water
  3. A SCOBY (a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast)

Mix the water and tea together and then add the scoby. The ingredients will start to ferment to create a lightly-fizzed beverage. You can even get creative and add pieces of fruit, juices, honey or flavored tea.

Once the drink has reached fermentation, you will have a bubbly drink that will quench your thirst, taste good, and do good. This is because the ingredients work together to form a healthy beverage that has amazing properties and advantages for your body.

For example:

It Can Help To Prevent Aging

Ditch those anti-aging creams and instead, get your hands on a SCOBY. Kombucha contains powerful antioxidants called EGCGs. These EGCGs work amazingly well at breaking down free radicals that especially cause cells to deteriorate (which is what makes you age).

It Has Superb Detoxing Qualities

Kombucha contains Theaflavin, a very powerful antioxidant. This antioxidant and others work together to defend the body against dangerous free radicals (toxins).

It’s an Immune Booster

The SCOBY produces healthy bacteria. During fermentation, natural probiotics are formed and good bacteria work hard to promote gut health. A healthy gut equals a healthy immune system

It’s Good for Your Skin, Hairs, And Nails

Kombucha contains vitamins B1, B2, B6, and B12. These are all the right types of vitamins you need to ensure that your skin, hair, and nails will are kept in their best condition.

It Eliminates Bad Bacteria

This drink is rich in probiotics and acetic acids - two very powerful ingredients that help to kill the bad bacteria that our bodies are exposed to daily.

It Has Weightloss Benefits

Oh yes. The probiotics and acetic acids we mentioned above help with weight loss. They work their magic by reducing the number of calories absorbed. They also curb hunger and prevent food from turning into fat.

It's Good For Your Mood

Loaded with vitamins B, Kombucha has recently been linked to suppressing depression, stabilizing moods, and enhancing concentration. And because it also includes a good dose of vitamin C, it helps to inhibit the release of cortisol (the hormone responsible for making us feel anxious and stressed) at the same time. This means that "bad moods" get a back seat.

It’s a Great Source of Vitamin B12

B12 is almost found exclusively in red meat and other animal products. This means that if you are vegan or a vegetarian, then Kombucha will help avoid a vitamin B12 deficiency. You need B12 for the production of red blood cells and healthy brain functioning.

It Improves Digestion

The good bacteria found in Kombucha helps to improve digestion. The natural probiotics in the fermented tea help to reduce inflammation while increasing essential antioxidants needed for smooth digestion.

It Enhances Energy

Because Kombucha has tea as an ingredient, it will naturally included traces of caffeine. The caffeine and B vitamins are what will give you a great energy boost.

Remember, if you would like to attempt making your own Kombucha, make sure that it has been accurately prepared. Contaminated batches can potentially cause more harm than good.
