AI To Replace Teachers?

in #education7 years ago (edited)

"After 10 years, traditional teachers will be replaced by robots, and the existing education system will be radically changed and become more individual." These are words by Sir Anthony Seldon, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buckingham.

The specialist believes that AI teachers who can adapt to different learning styles for different children will soon make traditional training unnecessary. He added that the curriculum currently being developed in the Silicon Valley will be able to recognize the expressions of the students' faces and adapt to the specific needs, adapting their method of communication to each student accordingly. The new era of automated learning will eliminate annual learning, as these "teachers" will enable students to study the material in the comfort of their home, or other places.

"Everyone can have the very best teacher and it's completely personalized; the software you're working with will be with you throughout your education journey.”

The scientist does not forget to warn that new technologies must be carefully implemented to avoid infantile students. Teacher activity will shrink to process control, and for automated education, 70% of learning will be outside the classroom. The expert warns that the entry of IT innovations in education will face resistance as there is a risk that many teachers will be out of work.
I'm not really sure that this will actually happen, considering the poor education system in Bulgaria, where I'm from, and other parts of the world where education is sparse or non-existent at all. On the other hand AI, technology is making huge leaps in its field, with each passing day, literally. Who knows where we actually might end up in 10 years from now? In today's rapidly changing world 10 years is a long time. Just think how the internet evolved in the past decade and changed our lives, including the education system.

It's sad really, I don't want to get into it, I've had great teachers always, :) even the shitty ones taught me, well what not to do in that case :)

I don't see the point in AI being the great savior and sheppard of the world or whatnot. solving all problems :D Venus project ....

Well said. It's hard to imagine having the same interaction you have with a real teacher and a robot/software.

Well, for one, it allows parents more direct influence on their kids' education. Also, it allows for kids to learn at accelerated rates. Kids won't be staying home, they'll still be socialized as the majority of couples can't afford to not have both parents working. But honestly, this will never get rid of teachers, because teachers are in massive unions, and massive unions have a lot of money available to suppress competition, no matter how effective it is.
