Recycled Learning Materials
I originally just wanted to write three letter words on used milk boxes. I was just wondering if I could go ahead and introduce words to my kid since she pretty much have learned the alphabet and she gets bored when I make her read the letters. Maybe she likes a little challenge. Well then, I created a challenge for her.
It turned out to be a challenge to me too! At first, I just wrote three letter words on pieces of cardboards cut from milk boxes. I wrote 4 three-letter words. Easy piecey. I showed them to her and she just looked at them.
Then I thought there should be some illustrations to come with the words. I went ahead and drew a car. That was the first word. Haha! I'm no artist. I am well aware of that. So I drew a car according to how I drew them when I was young. LOL. And I said ok, I can make this! Then I drew a can. That was the second word. I don't remember drawing a tin can before but how hard could that be, right? So I went ahead and drew a can. I was patting myself in the back. I can really do this!
Then I remembered the next word was "cap." How in the heck do I draw a cap? I started with the part where the head goes. Then the sorta duck bill thingy that gives you shade from the sun when you wear a cap correctly. I remembered my brothers bending that duckbill thingy so I imagined as hard as I can. I need to remind you, I'm no artist so this was really hard. HAHA!
Then last but definitely not the least, I wrote "CAT!" Why in the world did I write that??? At this point, all of my artistic juices have been depleted. So I went for the best cat illustration I can come up with.
What was supposed to be a challenge for my daughter instantly became a challenge for me! Now, I'm still thinking if I'm going to turn this into a quiet book. I like the idea. But the idea of having to draw some more...
Oh well, I started this. And it looks like it's working. My daughter now knows how to read the word "car" so it really paid off.
