3 # Let's talk about Mandolin !!! Parts of the Mandolin! Part 2

in #education8 years ago

Hi, how are you!!! In this publication we give continuity of the topic Parts of the Mandolin! You name the parts that Mandolin has, but, what function do they have?

In part one of this topic we had already mentioned the parts of the Mandolin, but not only is knowing what those parts are, we must know what functions they perform as it is very important because when we execute the instrument we will use them !

Let's start defining them from top to bottom:

  • Headset: The headset is the upper end of the Mandolin, this can have different forms depending on the Luthier who builds the Mandolin, usually the Luthiers build a specific way to identify their instruments, ie as a kind of firm. In this part is where the pins are incorporated, with this we can say that the function of the Headset is to accommodate the pins which are used to tune the strings of the Mandolin.

  • Pegs: The pegs as we have said are located in the Clavijero or Head of the Mandolin, these can be constructed of different materials and shapes, simply the function of the Pegs is to retain the rope in a gear And thus to be able to roll, the pegs go of the hand with the strip strings that we will speak of the later one.

  • Cejilla or Cejuela: This is a small piece usually of bone, which is located between the peg and the fretboard, serves as a bridge function to the strings and at the same time establishes the separation of the same by means of Some slots it has on top.

  • Fretboard: The fretboard as it is commonly called is a flat piece where the frets are located (that's why the name of the fretboard), this part is located above the mast from the union with the peg Until arriving at the mouth or hollow harmonic depending on Luthier that the * diapason * constructs can have of 17 to 14 frets, it is possible to emphasize that the frets are those that fulfill like function to determine the sounds.

  • Mast: The mast that we mentioned already when defining the fretboard is attached to the head and to the harmonic box, in its upper part is the tuning fork, which as we know is the one that contains the Frets, at the bottom of the mast you can see a polished curve which we used for the support of the thumb at the time of use of traes 12 onwards. The mast fulfills several very important functions in the Mandolin, since we use it for the instrument taking, location of the fingerboard and support for the tension of the strings.

In conclusion in this post I have given my definition of certain parts of the Mandolin, I hope they are waiting for Part 3 of 2 # Let's talk about Mandolin !!! Parts of the Mandolin!
