What Does It Take to be a Teacher? (A Teacher's Month Steemit Post)

in #education7 years ago (edited)

Teaching profession as percieved by most is the most tiring job ever. Imagine, you come to handle learners with different abilities and perspectives in life for not less than 8 hours a day for 5 to 6 consecutive days a week in 10 months each year; you do research for some sort of book-based lessons which you are not so familiar with for you to be able to deliver the topics with utmost mastery and confidence; you sometimes go to bed late for the paperworks which have to be complied and submitted the next day; and yes the most difficult part I just have to say, you deal with students whom you consider as "burden" in your class and whose problems you just can't figure out.

Teacher as I am, I say that this is a very rewarding profession. Well, any job in the world is rewarding on one's end if it's where his heart fits in. So no matter how less-paying, tiring, and low it is for somebody's eye as long as it's decent and you're genuinely happy with it, then all is well. Go for what's able to make you happy!

For aspiring teachers and those who are already teachers in their own little way, I'l be sharing to you what does it take to be a teacher, EXCELLENT TEACHER!

LOYALTY it is! It takes a loyal one to be excellent in teaching. Here comes the word COMMITMENT. As part of the community, we are therefore expected to adhere to what are we here for. Our profession's mission and vision must be above knowledge. So staying loyal or attached to what we commit to gives us a way to be a GREAT one in the career.

O for OPTIMISM! Exhausting as labeled by most, an uncontainable feeling is what it brings in return thinking that you somehow became a part of the well- tracked lives of the young learners. So whatever difficulties you encounter along the way, never ever stop staying positive that some time in a way or another, you make somebody to be a better version of himself.

It's recognition day! It's appreciating what each mind had contributed to the class despite all odds.

VERSATILITY! Being an educator, flexibility is a must. We have to be flexible enough in terms of approaches and the ways we deal with our dear learners. Since there's a rapid change in the learning demands of the students, there must also be a suitable way to meet them. For us to understand them better, we just need to go down to their level and put our feet on their shoes. Surely, it gives us no way to back off and quit in helping the young unveil their potentials, abilities, and gifts.

E for ENTHUSIASM! Be alive, alert and enthusiastic in discharging your duties. It creates a positive ambiance which lead most of the learners to be more excited in sharing time with you again and again.

Yes! Enthusiastic as they were! All ready for their Hawaian themed cooking contest.

To sum it up, it just takes L-O-V-E to be an excellent educator. I believe that with it, all things will just go as smooth as they can be.

THANK YOU! HAVE FUN!
