To help our children we must take into account the following tips:

  • Visit and talk with your child's teacher: at the beginning of the year, talk to your child's teacher, show him or her the interest what child's you have in learning. You should also tell him that if you notice any irregularity or problem, you should know it right away so he can know how to help you.

  • Know the rules of school discipline: in general, schools always inform the rules of discipline, either through conferences, brochures or billboards. There they explain what is the appropriate clothing, the rules for the use of computers, telephones, the appropriate language, information about assistance, vandalism, traps, fights, weapons and the consequences of not complying with the rules, all this is very important that our children also know it.

  • Attend conferences of representatives and teachers: All schools hold conferences with representatives either to inform the rules, to request the materials to be used, etc. As parents, we must always attend these conferences. In the event that I can not go, I sent a family member. In the same way, if something worries you, you can request to meet with your child's teacher at any time.

  • Find out how your child is doing at school: You should always ask the teacher how your child has evolved and if he or she has adapted. If there is a difficulty in your child, ask the teacher how she can help you. Remember that we must always act in a timely manner before your child is too late.

  • Seek help if you think your child needs it: if your child has learning problems with a subject, seek help, locate tutoring groups, after-school programs, libraries or seek help from an older student, neighbor or friend.

  • Supervise homework: Make your child understand that education is very important and that they have to do homework. To encourage this, consider the following: choose a place in the home that the child likes, set schedules to complete the task, and avoid distractions such as toys, televisions, telephones, etc. We can also help you to carry out your tasks, if we do not master the subject, we look for the necessary help.

  • Talk with your child: Whenever the child arrives from school, talk with him, ask him / her how he / she was, what he she did, what is pending. Chatting and listening are two fundamental skills for our children to succeed in school.

  • Teach your child to read: This is paramount for your children to succeed in school. Reading helps children to overcome all their subjects. Moreover, it is the key to lifelong learning.

  • Take attendance seriously: Children should only be absent in case of fever, vomiting, diarrhea, pain. The rest of the children must arrive at the school at the stipulated time, since being late can generate stress and interfere with learning. In the event that the child is very ill and is absent for a long time, he should talk to the teacher and inform him of the situation. We must also establish a sleeping schedule in order to prevent the child from falling asleep in class.

  • Providing good nutrition: we must provide children with nutritious breakfasts rich in whole grains, fiber and protein, but with a low amount of sugar to start the day, at the same time children will have more energy and perform better in their school . If there is no time to eat at home, prepare your breakfast in the lunch box and send it to school.

  • Supervise video games, the Internet and the use of television: We must always control video games, what you see on television and on the Internet. Technology has advanced a lot, for that we must be vigilant and prevent children from being exposed to violent material, as this can have serious consequences.

  • Teach your child how to prepare for assessments: We must always know when the child has tests. Remind him in advance to take home the necessary material, such as notes, study guides and books, in order to help them prepare. It is recommended that children pause for 45 minutes after studying as this helps them process and remember all the information.
