Overcoming phobias - Children's education

in #edu-venezuela5 years ago (edited)

Phobia is like a step higher than fear. Phobia is an exacerbated fear that reacts in a totally exaggerated way and people recognize it, because it is exaggerated and rational before a stimulus that apparently would not have to place in danger.

The phobia is a response that makes the person stay away, avoiding and feeling continuously threatened, therefore, loses opportunities in life.

Phobias, in most situations in which people want to get rid of them, end up receiving the help of a professional.

People know that this phobic reaction can even put them in danger. A seemingly harmless situation for many people may end up putting them at risk. People reach a point where they realize, how they obstruct and limit their lives with these phobias.

Ways in which phobias can originate

Phobias can have several points of origin:

❖ Traumatic situations.

❖ Through interpretation. By also observing how other people react to eventualities, phobias are created.

❖ What they say, is created as something bad.

❖ Overprotection.

You can have answers for which you are not prepared, and that can leave a mark that generates phobia.

❖ It is necessary to keep in mind that phobias do not disappear on their own.

❖ People are not crazy, they just react in an exaggerated way.

❖ Set a possible goal to overcome the phobia.

❖ Relaxation and breathing should be practiced.

Activity for children in terms of overcoming phobias

Prepare the list with the hierarchy of fears: children with paper and sheet, write to what they fear, either:

❖ Mice.

❖ spiders

❖ Among others.

It's about making two lists, one with what you fear and the other with what you fear most. For example:

I'm afraid to see a mouse on TV, but I'm much more afraid to see the mouse next to me.

The list is about what less fear gives, to see what scares us the most, and leaves you speechless.

How will the list be worked?

❖ Through visualization. Where the child sees in images that which gives him fear, to teach him to relax and channel that he should not be afraid and has to be brave. It is about the systematic desensitization, which is to approach little by little in the imagination to the feared stimuli.

❖ Through the exhibition. For example having toys that resemble what causes phobia and treating it with the child.

Always work at the same time the techniques of relaxation and breathing, to help manage the body's reaction to fear.
