Diabetes is a disease in which our blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels are too high.

Glucose comes from the foods we eat.

Insulin is a hormone that helps the glucose get into our cells to give them energy.

Prediabetes this means that our blood sugar is higher than normal but not high enough to be called diabetes. Having prediabetes puts you at a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes.

There are 3 types of Diabetes such as;

  1. Type 1 diabetes - your body does not produce insulin.

  2. Type 2 diabetes - this is the most common type of diabetes. The body does not produce enough insulin for proper function.

  3. Gestational Diabetes - This type affects females during pregnancy

Unfortunately Diabetes runs in my family too. My father is already an insulin dependent. this disease occurs on his late 50ths.

I used to be a caregiver with an elderly woman who have type2 diabetes, having this kind of sickness needs a lot of discipline when it comes to food and lifestyle.

What we need to do to avoid Diabetes (type 2)

  1. Exercises.... avoid sedentary lifestyle.

  2. Eat a balanced healthy diet.

  3. Maintain a healthy active lifestyle.

what do you need to eat to avoid Diabetes/ or to maintain your ideal blood sugar levels. .

  1. High fiber low carb.

  2. Fruits and vegetables

  3. Herbs (tea)

What food you need to avoid in order not to develop type 2 diabetes

  1. Packaged and fast foods, especially those high in sugar, baked goods, sweets, chips, desserts.

  2. Sugar - sweetened beverages.

  3. Deep Fried foods.

  4. White bread and pastas, as they are high in carbs but low in fiber.

This is what we usually eat on daily basis

Breakfast

Sweet Potato
1 cup of Black coffee

Snack

Parley - G whole wheat biscuits
Or 2pcs. Bran biscuits

Lunch

Sambhar (vegetables & lentils)
rice (moderate amt.)

snack

Tea (ayurveda tea)
Whole wheat biscuits or fruits

Dinner

Dosa (fermented rice)/ chapatti
Sambhar or chutney
