Welcome to the Question of the Week! We ask our @ecotrain passengers and community a question each week and then we all answer it in our own post! To make them easy to find I've tied them all up in this post so you can peruse and choose the ones you want to read! This week we have many gems, and thankfully a none political post.. well sort of.. at least relative to last weeks Tr*mp question! I wont do it to you all again i promise!
Who's world is this? Who controls which direction we all go in? Who SHOULD control the path we lead in these amazing and fast changing times. We can barely keep up with even knowing what technological advances are happening, let alone understand their implications.
Does it take great minds and visionaries to understand the world, and the the implications of our actions. Even the best scientists can't even agree on why the climate is changing, or if certain things are good or bad for us. There is NO consensus on everything because we are all individuals with different lives, cultures, priorities, and values. So WHO then should lead our world.. read on to find out!

Yes another big question from @eco-alex, maybe not as controversial as some of the others, but then again that depends on how you view the world and how you wish to co-exist with others. I could give a very short answer to this question. Because at the end of the day, we are such a hugely diverse group of people living on the earth, that is it even possible for everyone to feel like they are being truly represented by people who wish to guide.
So Straight up, I do not like the idea of leaders, in order for us to move forward we need to be finding ways to move away from any sort of hierarchy. I do not see people who provide guidance as anyway in the same league as those who wish to lead. Leaders in my experience have a little too much ego going on for my liking. So leave the ego at the door please.
Is it not better to aim for people to take responsibility for their own lives, their own actions. In an ideal world we would all strive to work together to create a better world, to create a world where we co exist as equals with all living things. There would be no place for dominance or manipulation, there would only be space for mutual acceptance and respect. But how do with get to that, is it even possible?

Every week I see many high quality submissions with many different views, voices and opinions.
Sometimes the views are very much alike.
This week's question will undoubtedly spark some passenger's vision, imagination and ideas.
So without further ado, I would like to voice my opinion on this subject.
Who are the best people to lead or guide our world ...Politicians, Parents, Academics, Philosophers, High Tech.. Or someone else?
The answer is easy. But I'll make it complicated, just for the fun of it. The answer to the question 'Who are the best people to lead or guide our world", is: WE are. Or even better: I am! Meaning YOU are, but the I always has a capital letter and is therefore the most important. We ALL enjoy this special status of the capital I.
But one 'I' is only one 'I' and therefore there are a couple of 'I's in small communities, a few more 'I's in villages and small towns, even more 'I's in cities and so on...
The individual alone can guide our world, as long as this is done in a group. No singular leader, but all with their own qualities and input. Self-governing... This, to me, would be an ideal world.

Be the change you want to see until there is no more need for a change
I was recently asked an interesting question. Who are the best people to lead or guide our world... Politicians, Parents, Academics, Philosophers, High Tech.. Or someone else? @eco-alex does that from time to time, asks us something and pushes us outside our usual thinking pattern to explore what is outside the comfort zone of our thoughts. This question immediately brought me to the subject of change. Would I want something in this world to change and if I had my magic wand, what would that be? Would I change the world leaders? Sure, I would make myself the ultimate empress of the world and fix up the place real nice. Dream big or do not dream at all, right?
When you look at this planet, what do you see? Do you see destruction, corruption, violence, and injustice? Do you see amazing cultures, scientific discoveries, kind people and beautiful places? Do you see us going backward or do you see us moving ahead? What is the frequency you are vibrating on? Couple, Pixabay, CC0 licence, author: StockSnap Not that long ago, if you wanted to visit someone in another country you had to travel for the bigger part of your life to get there and even longer ago, people did not even know some countries existed. Today, we can sit on a plane and be anywhere in the world in less than 24 hours.

So, this week for the @ecotrain question of the week, we are toning it down just a little! @ecoalex has promised no more Trump questions! This is good because it put me to the test on my theory that you are better off talking to your refrigerator than some people. I am learning, slowly perhaps, that my peace of mind is valuable and that my energy is better used on reasonable people!
That said, this isn't an easy question. I'm not exactly sure how I want to answer it. So, as I usually do, I will pick it apart piece by piece as I go. My first reaction was no one! I'm an anarchist, so I don't really believe in leaders, especially if they are given extra power.
I am reminded of the story of the Everett Massacre, which was a part of the IWW Free Speech Protests. They were protesting, and when the police came, they asked them, "who are the leaders here?" They responded in unison, "we are all leaders here!" As the name of the incident implies, it did not go well. I believe, though, this is how we will accomplish much, by coming together on equal footing.

In my opinion the very worst people to lead or guide our world are politicians, academics, philosophers, high tech'ers or ANYONE who lives a life as a specialist and is separated from normal mainstream society. In the UK we used to have a different kind of democracy, it was called a Direct Democracy, an it was a time when people took a much more active role in voting for important laws. As the population grew, and times changed, our direct democracy was swapped out for a system of representatives, and is the basic premise of most voting today. The list of failings of representation is too long to even start, and most of you will already know about the failings of politicians!

It does sound like the start of a joke, doesn't it? A politican, a parent, an academic, a philosopher and a high tech dude walk into a World Leadership Conference and....
Please feel free to finish that joke in the comments. I'll upvote that! This is what @ecotrain posed for the question of the week:
Well, If we're to map a new world and we need leaders or guides to do that, I don't believe it's what they do or what they identify with that's important, really, but the kind of person they are. A philosopher could be an unempathetic dictator and a parent a proselytising ignorant money hungry asshole. You know, I had an Aunt once (I still have an Aunt actually, I just don't see her much) who was a teacher and she always knew best, because she was a teacher. Ugh. And then there's the academics, so well studied they don't know how to communicate with layfolk. Of course, I've met very intelligent, uber kind and empathetic teachers who are high tech geeks and good politicians too.
Perhaps we need to start first with how our world needs guidance from effective leaders. I'm not sure anyone is every happy with the leaders we have, and there's little wonder we distrust the majority of politicians. Sometimes, it just seems that the world is run by heartless fools playing with our lives like cats play with baubles, jesters play with juggling balls. We need better compasses. More well built ships. People who can look up and see the stars rather than count their pennies in their counting houses with locked doors and a fear of the open sea.

Now of course there are so many ways one could go about conceptualizing this question and I look forward to reading the approaches the other passengers take. I'm going to answer it in a way I don't think any of the other #ecotrain passengers will. And that is by picking an often denigrated and even forgotten very humble profession/role...
But first!

I'm technically not a passenger on the @EcoTrain, but I love @Eco-Alex, and support his goals and this project especially, and I've found myself really appreciating question prompts like this and the @TribeSteemUp bi-weekly, since they get me to think & write on topics that I would not necessarily otherwise.
The simple answer
The first thing that comes up for me is a pretty clear "nobody"! The idea that any one human, group of humans, or type of human could possibly be fit to lead/guide the whole world is absolutely ridiculous. If there is anything that should actually lead/guide the whole world, I believe that it should be a balance between the dedication to compassion for all life, the search for truth, and the acknowledgement of each one's responsibility for their actions, experiences, and effects.
I feel that the biggest problem in the world today is that people are outsourcing responsibility for their lives, giving up their agency to "authority figures", and generally just being lead in all facets of their lives. Someone else is telling them what "diet" is right, someone else is telling them how they should act in the world, someone else is telling them how they should spend their time/energy (and stealing most of it along the way)...

I'm not an official passenger on the EcoTrain but their question of the week caught my attention - "Who are the best people to lead or guide our world ...Politicians, Parents, Academics, Philosophers, High Tech.. Or someone else?
I am a Canadian and in our constitution it says we have the right to good government but the fact is we have not had strong leaders for a long time and it seems that when politicians get pulled into the system they fall into the corruption. I have lost faith in the government and choose to put my resources and energy elsewhere. so this rules out politicians.
I lean more towards philosophers, the thought leaders. Those who are seeking truth and such things as what it is to live life fully, have a meaningful life. I would choose people who have been down the path and have made it to their destination. Those would be the ones that I would follow and take guidance from.
I'm gaining a lot from the modern day arenas of podcasts and debates where you can find long deep conversations on such things as "what is the meaning of life?"
