So often we don't foresee the consequences of things until damage has been done.
When you mentioned the children collecting them down river, I wondered if you were going to say that they resold them for another use.

@rem-steem - thank you!! Now that is some industrial level cake-sugar-rush!! The curation support is appreciated. :)

What always gets me about traditions, whether they're religious or secular, is that just by repeating the same motions of old times you may not get the same effect. And not wanting to rip on other peoples' traditions, I prefer taking the X-mas tree as example, which I've been ranting about since I was a teenager. Or the fireworks (for new years, independence day, the festival of the Guadalupe virgin, either one). Or throwing rice / cake at a wedding...

Yes, I've been criticized for my anti-traditionalist views a lot, but I keep insisting: thanks to modernity, the culture we live in today is so far removed from the one that started (whichever) tradition, that we may as well start our own traditions, which specifically address our present needs. For example, removing toxins (and algae fertilizer) from the rivers.

Thanks for raising this important point, though!

Starting our own traditions - or simply taking tiny bits from many cultures and gluing them together in a way that speaks personally is something I totally support. And traditions CAN and SHOULD evolve. I think. :) Thanks for the considered response.

It is so gratifying to observe the fulfillment of traditions with good will, a clean heart and care not to cause collateral damage. In recent times, overcrowded traditions cause more harm than good by excesses and waste. I respect your point of making known the traditions of the land that adopted you and the attempt to educate so that no harm is done to the local aquatic ecosystem. Well done!

Wow who knew bread could be so damaging, and it makes a lot of sense. To assume fish can process that type of food doesn't make full sense. Thanks for spreading the word and good to know if I get I visit Thailand 🙏🏻

@artemislives

It is a very good research work, since it helps us to raise awareness about the bad food we give to fish, it can kill them and damage our seas, it is terrible, I think few people know this, it is very good that you continue sharing this type of material with people who read your publications, thank you for this.
