How sad this all is! Especially, how the water, even flood water, would be a blessing if it wasn't so full of poison!

The whole of the rice culture is built on the blessing on the monsoonal flood. Our poisons are disturbing and destroying more than we can ever know.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Sorry to hear, we've heard of similar stories in Cambodia. There is a more of problem of Chinese-owned and operated dams releasing too much water with too short notice or sometimes no notice at all. A fish farm like the one in your post could be washed away instantly.

Indeed - Cambodia is especially vulnerable in the middle of the Mekong Basin, and has sold out big time to China, as has Laos.

Dear friend @artemislives We are sorry for your friend.
Nature is unpredictable and no matter how much you plan something, nature does its work and many times it is not as you want, she thought to give you a gift and is sad for that, but we are sure she lost much more, but her feelings are good and she thought of you because you helped her.
We hope there are no more victims of climate change and we can be aware of helping the needy just in these conditions.

There will be so many "victims" of climate change that we will be unable to count them. My worker is NOT a "victim of climate change" though - she is a victim of her neighbour's stupid use of dangerous agricultural chemicals.

That's right my dear @artemislives, the indiscriminate use of toxic chemicals that affect nature bring devastating effects, effects that cannot be contained unless we create awareness of the terrible for the environment, and I consider that we are all victims, but the main victim is the environment itself in the hands of the human being who acts without thinking about the consequences.

There's no actual evidence that climate change is caused by chemicals and environmental damage. That we are devastating the enviroment is without question. That there is drastic climate change is without question. That we need to STOP one and adapt to the other is without question. THAT ONE IS CAUSAL OF THE OTHER is not proven, and only assumed. Does it matter? Not really. :) But I hate sloppy thinking and I see it all around me in this climate-environmental debate. :) I intensely dislike the use of the word "victim". Perhaps Mother Earth is not a victim at all, and just merely shedding herself of the toxic parasite that is humanity. Not unlike us terrible sick with a cold but perfectly fine next week. Just Her time scales are vastly different. :)

Dear @artemislives I love reading and learning from you, here in my country we need to understand many things, here things are either good or bad, I feel that there is no culture of environment or real ecology, this subject is a deep, intense subject that we just try to understand, I love that you help us with your appreciation, is really valuable to us. Thank you again.

That's devastating and all the harder to deal with when you know that it could have been prevented entirely if we didn't use chemicals on farms. When will people start to wake up and see these things?! The other day I was getting some groceries in the organic section and a couple approached looking at some of the produce. Then he suddenly proclaimed loudly, "Oh no, it's that organic crap, we don't want that!" Well that organic crap is at least not responsible for causing things like this. 😢

The educational curve looms in front of us like Mt Everest. We need to start really, really simply - at the beginning - to explain out interdependence on one another and Mother Earth, and the consequences of using harmful chemicals. People think because it is legally sold "it must be safe". We gotta start there.

People think because it is legally sold "it must be safe".

I spent about 20 years of my life thinking that! Surely they wouldn't allow it if it's harmful. More fool me...

Seriously appreciated the curation support - thank you!!

There is a lack of education when it comes to people using chemicals on the land, what they see is more produce but what they don't understand is that it is at the cost of their land and their health. This is so devastating for your friend, I can not imagine how she feels, what have we become that we are poisoning the water, our life source, I really hope this brings some awareness to those who live around her, to see what these chemicals have done. xxxx How lucky some of us are x

I hope this brings awareness to EVERYone that whatever harmful spray or fertilizer we use, affects others. If you wouldn't actually, directly eat it, DON'T USE IT.

Oh wow.. what a story! I understand that climate change is a big problem, but these chemicals are just crazy.

Yet in poverty it is amazing that still, people are convinced to go organic. It is so great. And no matter how much the oceans are that drop you put into it @artemislives, will be remembered for ever.

Climate change is only turning up the heat (pardon the pun) on the real problem, and not a problem of itself. The real problem is the use of toxic products. Yes, I thought too, how incredibly brave of her to try organic when the cheap shitty hormone fish food would be so much easier for her son to manage.

Drop by drop..... x

Oh no!! Heart goes out. Hard to imagine what she is going through. Its easy to dismiss organic and sustainable labels on packets and to not research your product in the west when you dont have a clue about the real people that are affected by such terrible things. We must do better. We just must.

The west sanitizes itself from the source of its products, and so compassion and good purchasing decisions become harder and less likely. I believe we (I in particular!!) have an obligation to use social media to counter-balance this western-white-washing to bring opportunity and social justice to people living in poverty and without access to fair trade, organic global markets.
