Alternative Credit Card Processing to Shopify Payments
Hey guys, so yesterday I was browsing the Shopify Subreddit on Reddit and noticed a post from a guy who had his Shopify payments account shutdown.
This can be incredibly frustrating to put time and effort into setting up an online store, you start getting sales, and then boom, Shopify Payments or Paypal shuts you down.
Now I looked at his store and there's one obvious reason to me why the store has been shutdown. He's using the trademarked logo and artwork of Backwoods. There are some other potential issues like the nature of the products he's selling, but in general the most obvious reason is using trademarked logos he doesn't have the right to use.
Now when it comes to merchant processing we have third party aggregators like Paypal and Stripe, these companies are great in that they make it quick and easy to setup payment processing, however the downside is it's not a true merchant account. This means your paying higher rates and you're also more likely to run into problems with account freezes, having your account shutdown, having a rolling reserve placed on you, etc, etc, etc.
What you want to do is get a true merchant processing account where you have your own account. I also think it's good to have multiple payment processors at all times, this way if you get one account shutdown your business doesn't come to a screeching halt, you simply turn on the other processor. There's nothing wrong with using Stripe or Paypal but as we always say don't put all your eggs in one basket.
