Good question!
This depends on what you are interested in investing in. Let’s say you just want to buy publicly traded stocks and bonds then just open an online brokerage account and buy some.
However, if you are looking for opportunities that are not available in your brokerage account. Examples would be limited partnership interests in blocks of flats or some other investment possibilities then you need to find someone in that business and ask to invest with them.
If you want just passive income then you can simply purchase UK bonds of government or publicly traded corporate income bonds. The downside to this is the inflation rates are so high that you may not be able to achieve a real rate of return after inflation is factored in.
If you are open to a longer holding period of 36 to 60 months and can handle the bond being more illiquid then one possibility would be Alamo Mortgage Holdings, Ltd. This UK company purchases packages of mortgage notes in Texas and offers a corporate income bond that is payable in GBP or USD.
