In the early 20th century in Russia, people switched to the same calendar that is used in Europe – Gregorian (new style).
Before that, we had the Julian calendar (old style), which was 14 days behind the Gregorian calendar.
Hence, Christmas is not December 25, but January 7, and New year – January 14.
We didn't stop celebrating Christmas in January, and the New year too – it just became known as the Old New year. This is a normal working day, but many people celebrate it too. For this day we have a long tradition – prediction of fate.
People make varenics with surprises and put in them all sorts of objects or pieces of food that have a symbolic meaning.
For example, sugar – sweet life, thread – journey, beans – to replenish the family.

We will sculpt vareniks and put our symbols on them.
It's such a tradition here. If you come across a varenik, which has this symbol, then it's waiting for you in the new year. But since we have a crisis here, we refused to put in vareniks dill, cabbage, bay leaf, pepper. We'll just draw it all on vareniks!

It's actually very interesting, how the consciousness of a society is directly effected by a calendar. Elites have been messing with people in this way, for millenia :)

Calendars and time have really change in the way society operates. Seems even for the banking system that needs a change. We need to change the time change as well. Just making a change could really see positives again. Thanks for sharing.
Time change is a certain stress for a person. Maybe it will be positive, but many people will definitely resist.
