1. Thinking dreams can't be realistic.
This is a very common one, and you can test in on yourself right now. Try to answer the question: "Are you dreaming?"
If you just looked at how detailed your environment is, then congrats, you fell right into the trap! 👏
When you're in a dream, your brain somehow replicates all of your sensations perfectly.
If you really want to know if you're dreaming or not, you should use critical thinking, questioning if your current situation makes sense.
2. "Some people don't dream"
Listen- uh, Read, everyone dreams every night (as long as they sleep enough).
The fact that dreams just don't occur for some people is a simple myth. But you may still wonder why you don't remember dreaming.
And that's the issue! Let me explain: Our brain doesn't care that much about dreams, so it makes us forget them very easily. But if you just intend to remember your dreams, more often than not, you'll indeed remember them!
The only exception is if you have a sleep disorder that prevents REM sleep from occurring, but that's a different issue.
3. Thinking dreams can predict the future.
Due to the strange nature of dreams, some people may think that they can predict the future.
And this point of view makes sense: I bet that at some point in your life, you dreamt of something that happened later!
But there is no mystical entity behind that. Simply put, it is due to our expectations: If, in a dream, you except that something will happen, then it will.
This explains why you probably once dreamt of waking up when you had to wake up earlier than usual! ⏰
