Poem: Sleepless Night Man

Sleepless Night Man

I haven't slept well .
I can't sleep,
only thoughts come—
The bits of fatigue that are hidden in the gaps of the day,
They come out when night falls.

Every day I think—
I will calm down a bit today,
Drink a cup of warm milk
And hug myself silently.
I will put my mobile away,
I will say the words of my heart in my ear—
'Let's sleep now.'

But the night is spent in that preparation.
Before I close my eyes, the door to sleep closes,
Voices ring in my head—
Bills that have been paid,
Dreams that have been abandoned,
People who have grown old while waiting.

Whether I sleep for three hours or not—
In the meantime, I suddenly wake up with a pounding heart.
It seems that I have forgotten something,
Left something behind,
Or, I have not closed a door properly.

Life changes slowly—
A time comes,
When, in the pursuit of fulfilling a dream,
we sell our dreams.
Some for money, some for praise,
Some just for the urge to survive.

Those dreams that we sell
never return—
Even if they are within us, they do not remain for us.

One day, I realize that
the house I left
with my dreams in mind is no longer the place I will return to.
Even if I go back—
The familiar door handle is in someone else's name.
Unfamiliar nights lie in familiar beds.

Each of us
goes away, walking behind time—
In the hope of a little relief,
For a little breath,
In search of sleep.

And sleep?
It becomes a fairy tale,
The character of which I am not.

Home Netrokona Sadar Netrokona. I have completed my honors and masters in the Department of Economics, currently I write on Steemit in addition to my studies.
