Easter Eggery - Day 7 (The Odd One Out)
I admit, when I first posted in this community, I didn’t take heed of the profile or guidelines. I was new to the platform, caught up in the excitement of discovering different spaces, and was... well... on a bit of a posting spree. Like many firsts, my first day here was quite memorable. But the past is past - and since then, I've come to appreciate this space more thoughtfully.
That said, I know I’ve been regularly violating the community’s focus on fiction and poetry. I don’t write as often as I used to - partly due to a mental block… or maybe just to limit my rule-breaking to once a week. Kidding aside, it’s probably the latter -since I’ve decided to stick with non-fiction and only poke at poetry when I am really feeling it.
Since I view this community as Steem's very own library, I think it would be wonderful to establish a monthly book review tradition - perhaps even a contest, if possible (and hopefully including non-fiction books as well). It doesn't necessarily need to be a competition; it could simply be a designated day or week where we all share books we love and want to recommend to others - a little tradition that encourages reading, discussion, and the exchange of ideas.
I believe this can encourage (or rather challenge as it involves a bit more mental work) readers and writers alike. It pushes us to read books, to pen down the ideas that stir us, and benefit from others' insights through their reviews. I mean, let's be real: we can't read every book out there, and there's nothing unlawful with relying on others to do the reading and dissecting the book for us.
While I do think it's preferable to read the book yourself and form your own insights first, I've often found that well-written review can actually motivate me to pick up the book. And, yes, it's a spoiler, but for me, reading someone else's thoughts and reflections is a gem in its own right. It gives me a glimpse into how stories or concepts land in other people's minds.
I know that this is a community for writing, so my suggestion might be a bit out of place - but here it is anyway. Maybe there’s another community out there that fits this kind of content, but honestly, I don’t really want to look, let alone go, anywhere else. So, I'll probably stick to rule-breaking once a week, even if I'm the odd one out scribbling commentaries among poets and storytellers (assuming I don’t get banned, of course).
What also prompted me to write this is something I’ve noticed: there seems to be an abundance of writers (and I mean that in the best way!), but not nearly as many readers...
