in #dog6 years ago

S: Patient is a 2 years old female Rottweiler presented with the complaint of being in labor for more than14 hours. The patient gave birth to 14 puppies during the night but two of them were dead.
O: Patient was presented in distress. No pushing. Manual palpation revealed the presence of a puppy deep inside the vaginal canal. Several attempts to retrieve the puppy manually were unsuccessful. Radiographs show the presence of a fetus that is in a bending position.

A: This is an example of dystocia in a female canine patient. An emergency c-section was recommended.
P: The patient was anesthetized and the cesarean was performed. Unfortunately, the puppy was already deceased. The mother recovered uneventfully from the surgical procedure and was able to go home the same day.
