Another disappointing result from the Chelsea team led by captain leader legend Frank Lampard and facing enough failure from the senior member of the squad.
Beautiful sunny day in England as Chelsea took on Sheffield United the new Premier League boys. The result could have been more of big margin had Chelsea take their chances in front of goal.
Frank Lampard defended the one players that's to be blame for the horror Chelsea is currently facing by putting the blame on the team instead of pointing accusing finger.
The Chelsea Captain was targeted in 2-2 draw and gave the ball away 20 times, meaning his starting role must be called into question. It feels far too early for boos and inquests but there were a smattering of the former at full-time and in terms of the latter it is becoming more and more difficult to not ask questions about Cesar Azpilicueta’s future as first-choice right back. The captain was convincingly beaten for both of Sheffield United's goals, turned too easily by Enda Stevens for the visitors’ first and then Callum Robinson for the second. It was clear that Chris Wilder, the Sheffield United manager, had made a point of getting his players to focus their attacks down the left and, ultimately, it paid dividends.
However, the future looks bright for the club as there was more involvement for our young players this afternoon as Fikayo Tomori made his full debut, and Billy Gilmour his first senior Chelsea appearance, off the bench. Tomori was handed his first Chelsea start, and his second game in the league for us having appeared as a sub in May 2016. Andreas Christensen made way in what was the only change from the win at Norwich, and 18-year-old Gilmour was on the bench for the first time in a league game.
Abraham on the other hand was impressive again today building on last week beautiful performance which sees him score two goals in both games. He is looking like he will cement the number 9 position this season and make it his own for years to come. I like the fact that he is gradually becoming ruthless and personality of Drogba who had a great time at Stamford Bridge.
The players switch off in the closing stage of the game gave the visiting team the upper hand to press on and then was rewarded with another Zouma mistake. I think Lampard should replace Zouma with Rudiger for now. I am looking forward to another game coming after the international break this week and hope the players who are already in training from injury can come back to the team consequently giving birth to more depth in the team.
See you around. Cheers.
