Branchline Class 40 Split Headcode 40142 BR Blue

Another gorgeous British Rail Blue era model from Bachmann, this time the one time pride of the fleet, the English Electric class 40.

Sadly they didn't spend much time on express passenger duties after their initial heralded arrival, being replaced with newer and more powerful locomotives even before the 200 total locos had finished being built!

I remember these locos in the 70s and 80s as huge powerful machines and the early examples had the names of Cunard Line ships! I always preferred the engines with a 'bonnet' at either end!

The 200 were built between 1958 and 1962 and the last one was finally withdrawn in 1985.

A giant of an engine and a beautiful model that would grace any modern image layout!
