Economist Darrick Hamilton has a radical plan for leveling the socioeconomic playing field: give every baby born in the US a trust fund of up to $60,000. The money would be set aside for use when the kids reach adulthood, funding "asset-enhancing" activity, like higher ed, housing, or a business.

Interesting idea. Of course, the government seems to have a way of accessing the "lock box" when they need money (which is all the time).
The bazillion dollar question is how to come up with the 60K?
