These cases involving Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against Devumi and Sunday Riley has far wider implication than it would appear at first sight.

Among its purposes, the FTC seeks to protect the consumers from misleading or predatory business practices. That seems to be wide enough to cover selling fake data or any data or service that has the potential to mislead customers.

If you are in the business of selling any kind of data it would be wise to be mindful of the full powers of the FTC so as not to be on the wrong side of the law.
