Katla is emitting enormous quantities of CO2

Iceland’s monster volcano Katla charging up for eruption

  • Katla, hidden beneath the ice cap of Mýrdalsjökull glacier, has historically erupted violently once every 40-80 years. In-as-much as it’s last such eruption took place one hundred years ago, in 1918, Katla’s next eruption is long overdue.

Twenty thousands TONS a day? Has that volcano been driving an SUV?

Katla is just ONE volcanoe. Estimates are that there are millions of them on the ocean floor. In fact Katla is on the Atlantic Ridge, a chain of volcanoes that stretches for thousands of miles.

No telling how many of them are releasing CO2. 23/7....20 thousand TONS a day.

2/3 of earth is covered water. We just don't know how many are erupting.

Wonder why the Arctic is warm?

over a thousand miles of erupting volcanoes might have something to do with it?

Sort:

If the dimmocrats would be quiet, that could reduce Co2 by a few tons, daily..

I purchased a coffee early in the morning on my way to work. Styrofoam cup, it's what they use.Later that day at a different coffee stand(.10 cents off if you bring your own cup), I offered the cup for re-use. Made sense to me. Instead I got a disgusted...
I..I can't use that...
Instead a fresh bio-degradable cup was sent out to end up in a trash can.
Clearly, I was responsible for Earth's imminent demise.

It's hard to make a volcano feel guilty.

it's all your fault.
the volcano gods absolve you.

In 2016, the average annual electricity consumption for a U.S. residential utility customer was 10,766 kilowatthours

About 2.11 pounds of carbon dioxide are emitted into the atmosphere for every kWh of electricity generated by coal.

So the average household is putting out 10 tons a year. That's just for electricity though, that does not include emissions from heating or vehicles.

In 2017, there were about 126.22 million households in the United States.

10 tons each is 1262 million tons per year. Divided by 365=

3,500,000 tons per day compared to 20,000 tons per day.

The volcanoes on the sea floor are mostly hydrothermal vents that support chemical based ecosystems that eat whatever they emit, it does not go directly into the atmosphere like surface volcanoes.

There are about 30 active volcanoes on the surface.
