Delirious about Diosmas.
The Diosma ( Coleonema pulchellum ) is also known by it's common names "confetti bush" and "breath of heaven". Growing in the full sun, this is a round, compact plant which has masses of small pink, white or red flowers, depending on the variety. Another feature is it's pleasantly aromatic foliage, small green leaves which give off a fragrance when crushed or rubbed against. It can grow up to 2 metres ( 6 feet ) in height , and grows best in cool temperate to warm climates, but not humid tropical climates.
The Diosma benefts from a regular pruning to help keep the plant compact and minimise woody growth. It will grow in more shady spots, but the plant tends to grow thin and whispy and will not flower so much. They are native to the Cape Province of South Africa. There are many fine examples of this plant in my neighbourhood of Northern Sydney.
