The specified time in the future—which is when delivery and payment occur—is known as the delivery date. Because it is a function of an underlying asset, a futures contract is a derivative product.”

Futures Exchange according to Wikepedia “is a central financial exchange where people can trade standardized futures contracts; that is, a contract to buy specific quantities of a commodity or financial instrument at a specified price with delivery set at a specified time in the future.”

Futures History

futures trading goes way back to April 3, 1848, when the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was officially launched but took them 16 years to list the first-ever standardized 'exchange traded' forward contracts in 1864, which were called futures contracts. This contract was based on grain trading, and started a trend that saw contracts created on a number of different commodities as well as a number of futures exchanges set up in countries around the world.

For so many years, futures exchange offered contracts to mostly Agricultural and food products.

It took bitcoin 8 years after it’s introduction to finally make it to the futures market in December 2017 by the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). Other Exchanges then followed suit.

Future Trading has then grown into a trillion dollar Investment and it is speculated that cryptocurrency futures trading could well become the most popular investment vehicle among traders and speculators.
