Exkursion Nachtfalter und Mond ■ Excursion Moth and Moon

Am vergangenen Freitag war es wieder mal soweit. Wir waren auf Exkursion in Sachen Nachtfalter im Süd Spessart unterwegs. Natürlich wollten wir die Gunst der Stunde nutzen und auch die Mondfinsternis fotografieren. Daraus wurde leider nichts, da der Mond erst nach dem Blutmond hinter den Bergen hervorkram.

Last Friday it happened again. We were on a moth excursion in the South Spessart. Of course we wanted to use the favor of the hour and also photograph the lunar eclipse. Unfortunately this didn't happen, because the moon only came out after the blood moon behind the mountains.

Fasziniert waren wir trotzdem und haben unsere Stative aufgebaut um noch einige Aufnahmen zu fotografieren. Das nachfolgende Bild war ein Balanceakt, da der Mond bis auf den Schatten der Erde komplett ausgebrannt ist. Als Ausgleich gab es den Mars im Hintergrund zu sehen.

We were nevertheless fascinated and built up our tripods to take some more pictures. The following picture was a balancing act, because the moon is completely burned out except for the shadow of the earth. As a compensation, Mars was to be seen in the background.

Als alle Fotografen und Filmer mit ihren Aufnahmen vom Blutmond längst schlummerten, haben wir uns dem Mond gewidmet und mit unseren Möglichkeiten versucht das Beste aus der Situation zu machen. In meinem Fall ist das eine Canon EOS 60D + 400mm + 1,4x Teleconverter = 560 mm. Mein Freund Ritschi erzählte mir, dass der Mond sich um 2 Meter in der Minute bewegt. Da war ich mit einer Verschlusszeit von 1/80 Sek. noch in einem akzeptablen Bereich für eine scharfe Aufnahme.

When all photographers and filmmakers were dormant with their photos of the blood moon, we dedicated ourselves to the moon and tried to make the best of the situation with our possibilities. In my case this is a Canon EOS 60D + 400mm + 1,4x Teleconverter = 560 mm. My friend Ritschi told me that the moon is moving at 2 meters per minute. There I was with a shutter speed of 1/80 sec. still in an acceptable range for a sharp shot.

Mit voller Kraft erhellte der Mond die umliegende Landschaft. Diesen Sachverhalt spürten wir auch am Leuchtturm. Dort wurde die Anzahl der Falter immer weniger. Vollmond und klarer Himmel sind keine optimalen Voraussetzungen für einen regen Anflug an der Lichtfalle. Die Zeit der Mondfinsternis war jedoch optimal und wir hatten zahlreiche Arten am Licht.

With full power the moon illuminated the surrounding landscape. We felt this fact also at the lighthouse. There the number of moths became less and less. Full moon and clear sky are not optimal conditions for a lively approach to the light trap. The time of the lunar eclipse was optimal however and we had numerous species at the light.

Nachfolgend noch einige Impressionen welche tolle Farben und Formen die Nachtfalter im Verborgenen tragen. Die meisten Menschen bekommen diese Schmetterlinge nie zu Gesicht. Die überwiegende Mehrheit der Nachtfalter fliegen ausschließlich in der Nacht. Man muss schon einiges an Geduld und ein hohes Maß an Interesse mitbringen, damit man die Nächte in der Natur genießen kann. Entschädigt wird man mit Bilder von faszinierenden Insekten.

Below are some more impressions of the great colors and shapes the moths wear in hiding. Most people never see these butterflies. The vast majority of moths fly exclusively at night. You have to be patient and have a high degree of interest in order to enjoy the nights in nature. One is compensated with pictures of fascinating insects.
