Delayed precipitation and dry wells threaten the agricultural season in Morocco

The current agricultural season is threatened by the drought after the significant delay in precipitation in various regions of Morocco, in addition to the decline in groundwater levels significantly in recent years.

According to industry professionals, grain cultivation in particular has entered a critical stage with the delay in rainfall this year as compared to last year, where this agriculture needs a minimum of 94 days between the planting period and the completion of growth.

According to industry professionals also, the delay of the rains before the first week of December next will make the cultivation of grain is useless, even if recorded precipitation after that, as the needs of grain climatic conditions associated with growth until the harvest.

If the effect of delayed precipitation on grains is delayed even for days, the impact on vegetable production has become clear, especially with the rise in prices of onions, tomatoes, carrots and others.

Unlike the past years, where farmers mingled between the use of rainwater and watering, they are now relying on watering altogether, increasing production costs and directly affecting their prices in the markets.
