You will make the wire grid ON the panel, with single wires. :)

I will try to draw up what I mean. There are gaps in between cells where no power in produced. Coverage on these locations will no cost any power output, so heavy wire can be used here free of losses. Once the vertical wire is in place, add the horizontal, and tie them with fine wires. Move them away from the panel (because the panels are PLASTIC), and solder the joints. Put them back on the panel, and adjust any that have moved back to the gaps until they are all covered by this grid. I plan to use 12 ga copper for this grid, so the finer wire will be raised by two wire diameters.

These wires can be wrapped carefully from bottom to top on most panels. An easy to be sure, is to monitor the voltage output of the panel while you run a piece of black tape across the panel. IF the output drops out the wire goes vertical, if it does not drop out, the small wires go horizontal.
