Ukrainian government servers were hit by a “massive cyberattack” overnight that saw government websites taken down, including the homepage for the Foreign Ministry, which temporarily displayed a message warning Ukraine’s people to “be afraid and expect the worst.”

U.S. Chamber of Commerce, others urge Congress to pass privacy legislation
he U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and a long list of other organizations, urged Congress on Thursday to pass “comprehensive privacy legislation” that would prevent the development of an unwieldy patchwork of state laws.
“A national privacy law that is clear and fair to business and empowering to consumers will foster the digital ecosystem necessary for America to compete,” the groups said in a letter addressed members of Congress.

Manufacturers Must Maintain Readiness Against Russian State-sponsored Cyberattacks
A Cybersecurity Advisory (CSA) alert issued on Tuesday, January 11, titled “Understanding and Mitigating Russian State-Sponsored Cyber Threats to U.S. Critical Infrastructure,” written jointly by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and National Security Agency (NSA) warns of current, Russian state-sponsored cyberthreats, reviews historical avenues for attacks from advanced persistent threat (APT) actors, and advises on methods to detect, respond to, and mitigate damage from these attacks.

Georgia To Provide Cybersecurity Check-Up Platform
The Georgia Department of Education is giving every school district in the state a tool to analyze their infrastructure security and any needed improvements.
Georgia’s Board of Education recently approved the state superintendent’s recommendation to contract with the Georgia Technology Authority to provide licensing for a nationally recognized cybersecurity platform to each school district. The department will spend $970,000 in federal funds for the licenses; school districts will not be responsible for any of the cost, according to a GaDOE news release.

New RedLine malware version spread as fake Omicron stat counter
A new variant of the RedLine info-stealer is distributed via emails using a fake COVID-19 Omicron stat counter app as a lure.
RedLine is a widespread commodity malware sold to cyber-criminals for a couple of hundred USD. It supplies dark web markets with over half of the stolen user credentials sold to other threat actors.
