10 interesting facts about ARMENIA

in #culturevulture7 years ago (edited)

In my last post I told about my city and now I would like to tell a little about my country because I am interested not only in tourism in my city but in the country - I love my country very much : )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                 My country is ARMENIA

And first I will tell 10 interesting facts about Armenia:

   1. In Armenia chess is a compulsory subject in schools:

All students pass through the school an obligatory subject - chess, according to which they even take exams.

   2. Armenia is one of the few mono-ethnic countries in the world:

97% of the population of Armenia is Armenians. A small percentage of the country are Yezidis, Russians, Ukrainians, Kurds and etc.

   3. The capital of Armenia "Yerevan" is one of the most ancient cities on earth:

Even older than Rome (Rome was built almost three decades later). The buildings of the city are built of natural stone of various shades of pink, which gives the city a magical view. The stone is called "tuff" (with this stone were built those churches about which I passed in another post in which I wrote about the culture of my Artik town).

   4. Armenian cognac is the only one in the world that for its quality has received the privilege of the French to be called cognac rather than brandy. It was the Armenian cognac that Winston Churchill preferred:

Winston Churchill was very fond of Armenian cognac and daily drank a bottle of 50-degree cognac "Dvin". Once the prime minister discovered that "Dvin" had lost its former taste. He expressed his discontent with Stalin. It turned out that master Margar Sedrakyan, who was engaged in blending of "Dvin", was exiled to Siberia. He was returned and Churchill began to get his favorite cognac again, and Sedrakyan was subsequently awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor.

   5. It is interesting that, no matter where in Armenia you are, you will always see Mount Ararat:

According to the Bible, Noah's ark wandered in the rain that flooded the whole world, and when the water was asleep, he pestered Mount Ararat. Thus began the rebirth of mankind.

   6. The first church in the world was built in Armenia:

The Etchmiadzin Cathedral was the first official church built in the 4th century. This place is the headquarters of all the Armenian churches of the world, as well as one of the most visited places for pilgrimage. Armenia became the first country in the world, adopting Christianity in the government of the state, long before Byzantium and Georgia. This happened in 301, during the reign of King Trdat III, thanks to the activities of Gregory I the IlluminatorArmenia became the first country in the world, adopting Christianity in the government of the state, long before Byzantium and Georgia. This happened in 301, during the reign of King Trdat III, thanks to the activities of Gregory I the Illuminator.

   7. Linguists call the Armenian alphabet one of the most perfect in the world, along with Georgian and Korean:

The Armenian alphabet was created in 405-406 by the scholar and priest Mesrop Mashtots. For over a thousand six hundred years, the Armenian alphabet exists almost unchanged.

   8. The world's first textbook of arithmetic problems was compiled by the Armenian mathematician of the sixth century, "David the Invincible":

Now the specimen is in the repository of ancient manuscripts in Yerevan called Matenadaran. The Matenadaran is one of the largest repositories of manuscripts in the world and the largest repository of ancient Armenian manuscripts. At the institute there is a museum open for visitors.

   9. Armenia is one of the oldest wine-producing countries in the world:

Armenia is one of the oldest countries in the world, where they began to produce wine. This is due to its blessed location - on the fertile valleys of Mount Ararat, where a high-quality fruit of grapes is grown.

  10. Almost 1.5 million Armenians were killed during the genocide:

The genocide refers to the massacres of Armenians that began in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. About 1.5 million Armenians were mercilessly killed. The genocide took place in three stages: in the first place, Armenian men were drafted and killed (the population was left without men and there was no one to protect them), at the second stage, the representatives of the Armenian intelligentsia were killed, and on the third stage - women, children and the elderly.

There is still much to tell about Armenia, so follow my blog and write in the comments that you would like to know about Armenia.
