SWIPE: How It Works

Hi guys, previously we've covered several things about Swipe, especially about what kind of problem that they wanted to solve and how they'll do it in general. In this article, we're going to go a bit deeper. There are several components or parts from Swipe integrated solution for mobile data monetization. We will cover each of them within one or two paragraphs so that you can get a glimpse of it in a short amount of time. But, you can also read their whitepaper for more details.

Without further ado, let's talk about Swipe!

The Structure of the Data Marketplace

Let's remember that one of the Swipe solutions is a data marketplace to connect data buyers and sellers. This data marketplace will be the place where a buyer can get the necessary information for their marketing purpose, to understand consumer behavior, and get an insight into how users use their mobile/apps. On the other hand, app users can get incentives when they allow others to see or buy their data, while at the same time control their own privacy and get their own personalized content that fits their preferences.

But, how did those data get collected in the first place? How can Swipe match the data required by buyers and data that they collect from users?

Everything comes from the Swipe apps. SWIPE will provide several apps or SDK in order to collect data from users. There is at least four kind of SWIPE apps/SKD that collect different data from users. Those apps will collect data from individual app data sharing policy to data schema, which is required to match what kind of data is required by buyers.

Users can participate in data campaign where they can earn SWIPE. Data specification will be captured in a smart contract which also tracks users participation and processes the payment. SWIPE analytics engine (SWIPE Brain) will then process the data collected and the data schema to filter or sort out which data that they need. And by the end of the day, data will be available on the marketplace.

How SWIPE Brain Manage the Data

As previously mentioned, SWIPE Brain is the one responsible to manage data request from buyers. The way SWIPE Brain works is actually pretty simple. A requestor will first contact the SWIPE Brain and request an access to a data sets that they find interesting. There will be at least three response from SWIPE Brain depending on whether that data is available or not, which is sending a message that there is no data, no access or there is some policy that needs to be agreed on by the requestor.

If the requestor rejects the policies, of course, it won't continue the process. But if they accepted the policies, SWIPE Brain will request the data from the data provider or SWIPE Data Store, send it back to the requestor and they'll check whether the data match or not with the records or details that they've anticipated in. To put it simply, you can imagine this as a communication between two persons when they want to buy or borrow something from an intermediary who has a list and privilege to send the data to other parties.

SWIPE Brain will also help data buyer to create a data schema, which in its simplest sense is a list of data characteristics that are required by the data buyer. Data schema will help to collect data from users, increase its effectivity and helps data buyer to get the data that they need. It contains basic criteria, such as apps ID, a network used by users, the location of users and so on. Via data campaign, users will be able to participate in earning SWIPE tokens while at the same time help data buyers get the data based on the schema. It will be fully transparent and auditable through smart contract and blockchain.

Every data will be encrypted, to prevent others from accessing it without users consent. It will be decrypted when data buyers buy the data from SWIPE Marketplace and the owner allows the data to be sold. SWIPE Brain will process the encryption, sending and re-encryption by itself. Because data is stored on IPFS, it will happen quite fast just like when you download a file from the internet. On the other hand, the transaction details will be accessible from blockchain records. Because of this, transparency is guaranteed.

Data Collection Through SWIPE Apps

There are several apps from SWIPE to collect user data. SWIPE Push Lockscreen, SWIPE Marketplace, SWIPE Ads, and SWIPE Mission. Each SDK/Apps collect user data in various ways. For example, SWIPE Push Lockscreen will collect data from users engagement of personalized content on their lock screen. Every engagement is tracked directly so that we can know which content that they skip or visited. SWIPE Marketplace will support customer buying behavior when they buy things from SWIPE Marketplace.

Each app will try to collect as many data as possible, of course by getting users confirmation before doing to do so. SWIPE Mission, for example, will provide a list of mission that users can do and they'll get rewarded with tokens from the mission creator. If you look it from another point of view, this looks very similar to the bounty program or airdrop task of a new ICO, which is cool. Because of this, SWIPE can help new projects to get more exposure too.

Every data collection will be done after users acknowledgment. If they don't want some data to be tracked, they can choose to do so. Because of this, users privacy is considered to be safe, while at the same time they still can earn and monetize other data that they have. Both data buyer and users, in the end, can find what they need.

Bottom Line

So, that's how SWIPE works. With its ability to collect data users while maintaining their privacy, monetize their data and provide the necessary tools for apps developer or data buyers to get a valid user data, SWIPE will likely accelerate the development of new intuitive and creative apps for users.
