๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ“ˆ My Strategic Cryptocurrency Portfolio - Update #7 - Details, Distribution & Developments ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ’ฐ

in #cryptocurrency โ€ข 6 years ago

More details!

That is the theme of this update about my cryptocurrency portfolio. Not only did I include buys and sells within the short-term segment, this time I also included some extra pie charts to show more details about the current distribution.

I hope you enjoy these updates and you find them valuable. The main goal of these updates is to spark a discussion on what might be the ideal cryptocurrency target distribution within a long-term focused portfolio. Please share your thoughts with me and others :-)

Current target distribution long-term segment

The cryptocurrencies below make up at least 70% of all the coins that I hold at the moment of writing. They are the โ€˜Coreโ€™ segment of my portfolio as described in my post about the 70% Core / 30% Play Money approach to cryptocurrency investing.

Changes in the long-term segment (Core)

Iโ€™ve again reduced the number of coins in my long-term portfolio by one. I notice it still remains difficult for me to keep up to speed with everything, so I decided to narrow my focus. Also, I included some slight changes in the respective weights of the coins.

I decided to sell all my Ripple given it has risen to enormous heights and it remains too centralized and closed for my taste.

NameSymbolCurrentChange (ฮ”)
BitcoinBTC30%+0%
WavesWAVES24%+4%
EthereumETH16%-4%
StratisSTRAT14%+6%
MoneroXMR8%+2%
NeoNEO8%+0%

Changes in the short-term segment (Play Money)

A brief overview of the buys and sells since the last update:

Sold

  • Ripple (XRP)
  • Civic (CVC)
  • Gridcoin (GRC)
  • Metal (MTL)
  • Factom (FCT)
  • Monaco (MCO)
  • Verge (XVG)
  • Melon (MLN)

Bought

  • Icon (ICX)
  • Ubiq (UBQ)
  • Digibyte (DGB)
  • Vertcoin (VTC)
  • Pivx (PIVX)

Current token vs coin distribution

I prefer to bet on the house rather than the player. Therefore I want to keep an eye on the token vs coin distribution in the short-term segment.

Current consensus mechanism distribution

Since I don't want to bet all my investments on just one method of reaching consensus, I also keep an eye on the current consensus mechanism distribution within the short-term segment.

Very inter Portfolio. Thank you for sharing!

What made you pick Monero (over Zcash, Dash etc)?

What made you select Waves?

No worries, hopefully it offers some inspiration to others for their portfolio :-)

Monero since I wanted to have a privacy focused coin for the long term. It seems to have the most involved community, very good tech and a very active development team based on their Github.

Waves is one of projects that really seems to understand what is needed for their success. They are here for the long haul. They know they have to build the right supportive ecosystem around their platform, not only offer the possibility to launch a token. This ranges from making sure there will be liquidity, an incubator, ICOs are compliant etc. They don't overhype their progress, they just deliver and not just on the technical side :-)

Of course there are many more good projects. I try to pick the ones that interest me personally, seem to be very serious and know what they are doing. I actually think I will decrease the number of holdings even further, since it still takes a lot of time to keep up :-P

i currently have a piece of monero but their wallet is giving me alot of issues. Do you notice your wallet taking FOREVER to sync?

I am not using their wallet actually so I don't know what is going on :-)

I just watched your video where you said you moved some of your BTC into ETH. My portfolio is heavy on BTC as follows:

BTC 70%
ETH 12%
BCH 10%
LTC 7%

Do you recommend moving some of my BTC into ETH even with this recent runup of ETH or should I wait for a pull back?

Just my 2 cents (also a somewhat beginner investor...) I would definitely vote more on ETH and less on BTC :)

2018 will be the year of ETH, quite confident after the thousands of articles I've read over the past few months :)

I guess you watched a video from a different crypto-enthusiast since I haven't made any about that ;-)

Anyways, you have a portfolio with relative low volatility and picked a few of the big coins. It all depends on what you feel comfortable with...

For my personal taste the BTC dominance in the portfolio is too high and I would take some of it and put it in 1 or 2 platform coins. Of course that is just personal preference :-)

Hi @cryptotem, I have not started any investment yet. Still observing what other people do with it. I find your post very useful and it makes sense to me. I don't understand when people show it in transaction snapshot but your way of showing it in charts and tables really make sense to me. Selling Ripple and the rest of the list was a good decision and what you are currently holding are all the good counters. Will keep on following your update on this. Have resteemed, upvoted and followed you. Best wishes for the new year!๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks @ainie.kashif! I always try to deliver value and I am glad you like it :-)

Interested in your portfolio weighted by NEO. I'm guessing you've been holding those, and staking for some gas?

I actually made the mistake of not staking it. Putting it on a hardware wallet now :-)

You should check out Fun Fair token, it's cheap right now and will go up to $1.

I have heard about it. What are the main reasons why you think this will happen?

It's similar to Edgeless but I think it's better and that token is over $2. The Fun Fair team is well known too.

why you decrease 4% of etherium if they got big news upcoming? are you planing to add to your portfolio ico section?

Thanks for the questions!

It is all about personal preference and the Core part I hodl for the long term so short-term news does not matter that much. What kind of news do you expect?

I don't have a specific ICO section since I see this as Play Money. If I invest in an ICO, I will list it in the Play Money section :-)

Great performance of STRAT, never heard about it. Great management, wish you wealth!

Same to you!

Overall great summary! What a year 2017 was! All those hypes and moons! I see that you hodl couple of legacy coins like BTC and ETH. Do you think it's safe to trade those? is this why you hodl them or do you think it is still possible that those legacy coins will double its value in 2018?

It was indeed a wild year and 2018 will probably be one as well :-) BTC and ETH are one of the least volatile coins out there. One of the things I would like to achieve with this portfolio is to outperform the market, but reduce volatility. With a big position in BTC and ETH the upward potential might be lower, so is the risk.

Smart and risk free move! I have small amount of BTC and most of my money on promising altcoins like REQ, TRX, ENJ and POWR. Return rate of these was incredible. But again, they are soo volatile and risky. But I'm planning to hodl them in 2018 as well. 2018 will be the year of altcoins! :)

That could indeed be the case, hope you are right!

What do you think Ripple and Bitcoin will hit this year?

I don't do price predictions. What I do think is that Ripple is massively overpriced relatively to most other coins and tokens at the moment.

Amazing post!

Thanks!
