BitGrail exchange under attack as $170 million worth of Nano missing

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago (edited)

Recently hacking attempts on cryptocurrency exchanges have increased and in one such attempt $170 million worth of Nano are reportedly missing from BitGrail exchange. According to BitGrail exchange, an internal check revealed unauthorized transactions which led to a 17 million Nano shortfall.

Bitgrail did not declare it any attack or hack and has suspended all withdrawals and deposits in order to conduct further verifications. This exchange is the largest trading site for the RaiBlocks (XRB) cryptocurrency which is now rebranded as Nano.

In a statement the Nano team said, there was no double spending detected on the ledger in our preliminary investigation. This problem appears to be related to BitGrail’s software due to an issue in the Nano protocol.

Looks like Bitgrail founders decided to cash-out via "surprise hack." The whole Nano project is now in jeopardy because of these fraudsters. Centralized exchanges are the bane of the crypto space.

Definitely exchanges should be dedentralized to overcome these issues.

Looks an inside issue not hacking
