Goldilock- The new way to a secure internet

in #crypto6 years ago

When you hear the word "security" what are thoughts that occur immediately -Military, Anti -Virus, hackers, locks, vaults, etc. For most of us military grade security means the highest level and unlocked devices and public platforms the lowest level.
OK. What about connectivity? Here too the ideas are similar. With Military dedicate satellite links at the highest level and all free to use public place devices at the lowest level.
With the rapid improvement in technology which connects the internet to devices connectivity does not seem a large problem. But regarding security the case is opposite. When more and more devices being capable of connecting to networks easily and the data transfer rates are becoming blindingly fast, security is a growing concern.
To affirm this concept you only need to just look at the amount of cyber-security softwares going around, and most selling well. "All you need to be a cybercriminal these days is a computer and the internet" This is the title of an article posted on https://www.htxt.co.za In this article there is a quote from a cyber security expert: “Today’s cyber criminal doesn’t need to be a technical wizard. All he needs is a few hundred dollars and a computer. A recent report by Armor revealed that the dark market is riddled with tools and services that can be used to commit various attacks. For example, it costs as little as $10 an hour for a DDoS attack, and around $200 for spam for hire,” says Campbell-Young.
To come to the point when your sensitive and important data like medical records, bank statements, closed door judgements, minutes of meetings, etc is online ALL the time, it provides a huge window of opportunity for criminals.

So the obvious answer would be to lock up your data in an offline device( cold storage). Wrong! This method not only refuses to leverage connectivity but invites a whole new set of problems like theft and damage of the device. And what about updating data where time is a critical factor like medical data or identity verification processes?
Till now we had to compromise between these two- safety and connectivity. Now we have GOLDILOCK A new type of storage system, which acts as a cold storage until such time that the user needs access to their funds/data.

This image shows how it works:

Goldilock will use the NEO platform to build a secure structure. The motivation as they state "if it's connected to the internet, it can be hacked." When your data is offline till you call it up for a fixed time period it is tamper-proof. Goldilock is your very own safe bubble in the cyberworld.
An example from their site https://www.goldilock.com/#cases of how powerful Goldilock is: "Hacks into credit accounts and credit identities occur daily. With the data breach last year at Experian, approximately 150 million households were victims of data theft. Millions of users scrambled to ‘freeze their credit’ to avoid accounts being opened in their name, and many now struggle to unfreeze it. The application of Goldilock technology will eliminate the need to have personal credit information online except in times when you, the owner of that credit information, give instant approval for credit agencies to make it available for specific periods."
I seriously think this will revolutionize the Data Storage Sector. Goldilock uses a "physical airgap disconnection" i.e. The physical store of your Data is not connected to the internet till the owner acts to retrieve it. The applications range from creating virtual wallets to storing Insurance documentation and more
I would want to not only use Goldilock but to invest in it too. No wonder Forbes names Goldilock one of the Top 10 Blockchain Companies to Watch in 2018
