XAYA - new approach to virtual worlds (games)
INTRODUCTION:
XAYA is an essential tool that enables the development and implementation of sophisticated virtual worlds (games) which would be hosted in decentralized manners without the need for centralized servers.
With XAYA, game developers go from concept to game release with less time, less financial costs, and more infrastructures.
The gamers (players) have real ownership of their online assets with XAYA, and they also get to share in the potential profits from the games, which the developers built. XAYA achieves this by giving gamers the ability to trade their online assets into real-world assets (gamers can trade their online assets for cryptocurrencies, and these cryptocurencies can be converted into fiat currencies).
With the ability of XAYA to enable the trading of online assets for real-world values, most people would assume that XAYA is an ordinary asset management platform. However, this is not true, as XAYA is more than an asset management platform. XAYA allows these virtual worlds (games) to be run in an effective, efficient, independent, decentralized and secured manner. This means that gamers (players) have no reason to lose their assets due to an unwarranted third party issue, as opposed to other asset management platforms.
The XAYA team originally experimented on the Huntercoin project. The huntercoin achieved the following
1 The very first decentralized massively multiplayer game
2 The very first game built on the blog chain
3 The very first human mining permissible cryptocurrency
Infact, the Huntercoin project was a huge success. The huntercoin had over 35,000 characters which interacted simultaneously in the game. The huntercoin was completely independent and it never required any servers. All these resulted in huntercoin bringing over 10million USD as the market cap. With the success of huntercoin, which was a mere experiment, the sky is just the beginning for the success which XAYA is bound to attain.
CRYPTOCURRENCY:
As most of us already know, the value of a cryptocurrency increases when there is an high velocity of the cryptocurrency i.e when many users use them in various transactions.
As with most projects based on the blockchain, XAYA has a cryptocurrency, which is called Chi. XAYA creates a high velocity for the Chi crypto via the demand of developers who want their games to be popular, and if these games turn out to be impressive, then the velocity for the Chi crypto would greatly increase, and this would result in the growth of the XAYA economy.
THE XAYA PRODUCT:
Before we delve fully into the workings of XAYA, it is pertinent to note the problems which are faced by the Developers and Gamers
Developers:
Time and cost to conceptualize an idea and build into virtual worlds (games) are the problems facing developers, and this has impeded a whole lot of impressive game projects.
Gamers:
Gamers require games in which the number of assets owned in the games depicts the status and progression of gamers in the games. Gamers also require some rewards for the time and effort spent on these games. These rewards should have the ability to be exchanged for real-world values. Simply put, gamers require complex games.
THE XAYA SOLUTION:
A critical look shows that the problems facing both the developers and the gamers are intertwined. I mean, if the time and cost in developing virtual worlds (games) are favourble to the developers, coupled with rich infrastructure, developers are bound to develop complex virtual worlds (games), which the gamers so rightly deserve. This is what XAYA attempts to achieve.
XAYA provides a platform where game developers get to use effective and efficient tools and infrastructures to build their virtual worlds (games) in a timely and cheaper manner. Developers can also issue their unique crypto for the games they built, and this currency can be exchanged for CHI or any other XAYA game crypto which is built on the XAYA blockchain.
Scalability is an issue that has rocked both the blockchain world and the virtual worlds (game worlds). To curb this issue of scalability, XAYA is prepared to go the extra mile at all costs and is currently employing the use of Trustless Off-chain Scalling for games (Game channels) and Ephemeral Timestamps. More light would be thrown on this, as this article proceeds.
THE XAYA TECHNOLOGIES:
XAYA’s blockchain is secured by the proof-of-work (PoW) algorithm.
The XAYA team, in 2013, gained the experience and intellectual property from Namecoin (very first altcoin) and Huntercoin, and thus, the team is using this experience and intellectual property to ensure that the accounts of gamers and other important game data such as ownership of valuable items which are sensitive and unique are stored with an autonomous, independent and decentralized value, built directly into the blockchain.
Some unique technologies which XAYA employs, but not restricted to, includes:
Atomic Transactions:
This technology ensures the trustless trading of gaming assets such as game items, gam-specific currencies, whole game accounts, etc. for CHI. This is to ensure that there is a demand for CHI which in turn ensures the buoyant flourishing of the XAYA platform. This technology was first initiated in Namecoin by the XAYA team.
Game Channels:
The XAYA platform is required to scale to a specific global size, and to achieve this, the XAYA team is making use of this technology. This technology ensures that payment channels in Bitcoin can be extended and subsequently applied to the virtual worlds (games) between numerous gamers off-chain. This technology subsequently enables near real-time gaming on-chain.
Ephemeral Timestamps:
When in-game disputes arises, transactions are moved and made on the main blockchain to resolve the dispute, using this technology. XAYA achieves this technology by carefully and cleverly mixing the time-stamping capability of a blockchain, the merkle-ized hash commitments, repaid mining incentives, and fraud proofs. Thus, with this technology, transaction fees can never be detrimental to a honest user of the XAYA platform.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Scalability is an issue that has always rocked the blockchain. XAYA is cleverly using the game channels technology to address this issue.
Game channels are used to record every game moves. These records are then stored on a private sidechain. With the help of Digital signatures and has-chain structures, games moves cannot be fraudulent or changed.
If all the gamers agree on the outcome the game, the rewards is distributed and shared via 2-of-2 multisignature transactions.
If gamers fail to agree on the outcome of the game, the records of every game moves which have been stored on the sidechain can be used by the honest gamer to prove that he is honest according to the rules of the game and thus he can be able to claim his rewards.
With this game channels technology, another scalability issue is raised, due to the fact that “if a dispute is raised but then resolved, the game continues as before. However, this process puts transactions onto the main blockchain, thus removing the scalability gains and costing (both) players transaction fees”. Thus, a fraudulent gamer can continue to continually cause disputes and resolve them on a game built on the XAYA platform, just to disrupt the game and also annoy honest gamers.
To prevent this, XAYA makes use of the ephemeral timestamps. The ephermeral timestamps have the following properties:
- Nodes can send data (D) which are to be timestamped at a specific time (T) by the public network and blockchain. The cost of sending data per timestamp is free, due to Merkle trees. Moreso, miners are incentivized to process these timestamps.
- With this timestamp, it is possible for another user to have known D during T, and this means that the fraudulent gamer can be proven to have acted contrary to the rules governing the specific game channel. This means that, the honest player can be proven, and thus can receive his prize, while the cost of the current timestamp is been covered.
TYPES OF GAMES WHICH CAN BE USED ON THE XAYA BLOCKCHAIN:- Collectible Card Games
- Real-time strategy games (RTS)/multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBA) such as Heroes of storm
- Turn-based games such as UFO Enemy Unknown
- Other genres, such as head-to-head games, social VR worlds, etc.
