Well, that was fun while it lasted

EBay, Stripe, Visa and MasterCard all announced they have abandoned Facebook's cryptocurrency project.

This is coming on the heels of PayPal dropping out last week.

The Libra association is going to have to find some new members for the Libra Association, but it's going to be basically impossible to replace the reach of these companies that are leaving:

I wish I could say I was surprised this project is imploding.

The world is so afraid of money that governments don't control.

Sort:

Many of the same people who embrace non-governmental controlled money, also believe that Facebook collaborates with alphabet agencies and that Facebook itself is an instrument of government (or more accurately, an instrument of the same oligarchs for which government is an instrument).

Judging by how governments are reacting to it, it's clearly not.

Judging from the viewpoint of history in the light of Hegelian dialectic, I'm not entirely convinced.

Do any of this oligarchs have faces or names?

Being a secret oligarch necessitates not having a face or name, however, "Rothschild" makes a good starting point for scrutiny.

I think I remember reading they were looking at getting into bitcoin a while back.
