Now you can Buy , Sell or Hold Crypto Currencies on a Single Debit Card : Revolut

A while back i picked up a Revolut Visa card mainly to use abroad as this card can hold multiple currencies.
These currencies are bought at wholesale rates and held on the card at the rate you paid. So a much better deal than on the high street.

As an example..

Change GBP to Australian Dollars

Best high street deal i could find was £1 = $1.68

The exchange rate on the Revolut card was £1 to $1.76

Remember when you exchange it hold the currency on the card at the rate you paid

There are quite a few different currencies you can hold
£, $, AU$, Euro plus others

Another thing about the card is you control pretty much everything from an app on your phone

You can..

Change the pin instantly

Block the contactless payments if you lose the card.

Freeze the card from working altogether if you lose or misplace it. Then unfreeze it if and when you find it

The card is a pre loaded card but it can be linked to a debit card for instant top up or you can load money by bank transfer (which is how i use it)

When i got the card it did say they were planning to have an option for buying and selling crypto on the card at the best exchange rates. At the moment you are not able to send or receive crypto direct. But you can buy and sell it, or spend it by the card converting it back to cash at the current exchange rate.

Yesterday i got an email to say that crypto trading was now available on my card. Within a few minutes i'd done a test buy and it worked instantly. So at the moment i have GBP, AU$ and Litecoin all on the one card.
This seems pretty cool for a visa card.

We’ve just unlocked cryptocurrencies for you

Hey Dune69

Admit it - you read that subject line and got a little too excited, right? Well, today is your lucky day, we’ve just unlocked cryptocurrencies for your account.

Simply head on over to the app, accept the terms and conditions and you can instantly exchange to Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum at some of the best possible rates.

You can also transfer your cryptocurrency instantly and for free to other Revolut customers or even pay for your morning latte with your cryptocurrency!

Common questions on Revolut Crypto:

  1. How do you calculate the Revolut Crypto exchange rate?

We only charge a simple, low-cost 1.5% markup on the average exchange price that we get from our exchange partners. This essentially means that we take the average price of the Crypto currently being sold on our partner’s exchange platform, then add on our 1.5% fee.

We don’t use the rate that you might find on Google, as this is an indicative rate averaged across a number of different exchange platforms. It’s actually near impossible to buy Crypto, from anywhere, at this rate! You can read more about this in our blog post, here.

  1. Can I send my Revolut Crypto to an external wallet?

Currently, you can only transfer your Crypto to other users within the Revolut app. It’s not possible to send your Crypto to an external wallet.

We launched Revolut Crypto to make it easier for almost anyone, anywhere, to buy and exchange cryptocurrencies at some of the best available rates. You can instantly exchange any of our 25 fiat currencies in Crypto and back at the touch of a button.

There’s no need to worry about how to secure your Crypto, blockchain or private keys - as the value of your exposure is securely stored within your Revolut wallet. This approach makes cryptocurrency much more accessible, and appealing, to the wider population.

  1. Can I top-up my Revolut account with Crypto from an external wallet?

You can buy Crypto by exchanging from any of our 25 fiat currencies into Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ether. Simply top-up your Revolut account with a bank card or by bank transfer, and convert your fiat balance into Crypto in the Exchange section of the app.

It’s not possible to load your Revolut account with Crypto from an external wallet. Revolut buys Crypto from our exchange partners on your behalf, so you don’t have to worry about the hassle of private keys.

  1. Which cryptocurrencies are available and when will you add more?

You can buy Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ether. We hope to integrate more cryptocurrencies into our platform in the future, but there’s no timeline for this just yet!

  1. Can I pay in Crypto and are there any limits?

When you spend your Crypto balance with your Revolut card, it will automatically be converted back into fiat currency using the exchange rate at the point of sale. Card payments that use your Crypto balance must be at least €10 (or currency equivalent), and a maximum of €100. You can’t pay in Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ether with your Revolut card.

You can ‘deactivate’ your Crypto wallets to prevent your Crypto balance from being spent with your Revolut card. Head to the Accounts tab, and tap the Account Manager icon on the top-right of your screen. Then, simply swipe left on your Crypto accounts to ‘deactivate’ your wallets.

You can exchange up to €10,000 (or currency equivalent) of Crypto per day.

That's pretty good stuff @dune69 ! I was thinking lately to get one of those cards...the good part of it is that it is MasterCard, which did not banned BTC payments like visa did... I was just a bit concern about the government/taxes part also... Are you supposed to pay taxes for every purchase you make with crypto? Which level of privacy this card offers you? Can you get in trouble with the government for using it? I'd love to know more about it :)

I have the Visa version.. The visa version is the standard (free) version. The mastercard version is the premium version with a £6.99 per month fee.. I'm not into fee's i like free :-)

I'm not sure about bans and taxes.. I'm in the UK so i don't think they banned anything apart from buying crypto with credit cards.. This is a pre loaded debit card.. As for taxes as i understand it in the UK you only pay tax when converting it to cash or use it as cash.. Similar to cashing in shares

I'm waiting for that feature to send cryptocurrencies to external wallets. Do we need to complete KYC in order to get a card?

Not been able to send to external wallets is the main downside. I hope eventually they open this up to spending and transferring the crypto anywhere

I'm not sure about the KYC

It sounds as if crypto is bound to the card holders. Crypto can’t leave the pool of card members. Is this correct and do you like it that way?

Yes as i understand it the crypto at the moment is held within the revolut pool and you need to convert to spend it or exchange between revolut members. But i guess you can trade with swings instantly if you wanted to.
I'm hoping they eventually open it up to spending the actual crypto and been able to send to a private wallet.

As i said i got it mainly for the currency conversion. But the bonus of the crypto options is novel and could eventually be good if and when it becomes tranferable
