Total Bitcoin Value Greater Than Visa MarketCap - SUPER AWESOME, YES, BUT NOT AN APPLES TO APPLES COMPARISON

in #crypto6 years ago (edited)

I just learned that Bitcoin recently passed Visa's Market Cap. Now, this is AWESOME! That said, let's not be so naive as to say that this means Bitcoin has 'won'. The fight is beginning and this is a GREAT STEP, but we still have a LONG way to go. Bitcoin futures, imho, will be a good test of that. Visa's market cap is not fully representative of its value/strength, imho.

It's Visa's utility, its overall integration with the current economy, its business partnerships, etc. that make it as powerful a force as it is in the financial realm. Additionally, the overall value of all transactions that occur using Visa payment systems is astronomically higher than the market cap of its company, as well as the current market cap of Bitcoin, which is, in itself, currently a form of payment exchange, rather than a company. Again, I LOVE the fact that the market cap of Bitcoin has passed Visa and I opine that it will just grow further and further, but I also don't think you can look at the market cap of a Company like Visa and say that that is all that makes it a powerful player in FinTech. I expect we will see a lot more than the advances they have already made (cryptopay and bitpay cards) down the line and they will be fully inserted into the Blockchain Ecosystem. They would die before they let themselves get left behind.

That said, I think that Bitcoin has A LOT going for it that could make it leave Visa in the dust altogether at some point. There is a huge level of trust growing regarding bitcoin and the fact that it is an open ledger makes it so people don't have to rely on the government, which is hugely attractive because of past fraud occurring at Citizen Expense on behalf of the government, for US Citizens, Russian Citizens, Chinese Citizens, and the list goes on. Every government has carried out shady dealings and have been caught in the act.

This bothers people and attracts them to bitcoin. For the first time ever, we can keep track of finances in a way that we never could before. This is one of the reasons that the Blockchain will continue to grow and integrate into Finance and Technology and why I think it will be the future of financial transactions in the long run. Not to mention BTC's utility in bypassing country to country fees/laws/rules regarding sending money (pros and cons of that, but it is something attractive to those who want full freedom in economic transactions, which includes companies who pay huge fees to do transactions). Long live crypto!

AS ALWAYS, WISHES OF WEALTH AND HEALTH FOR ALL! :)

Hi @marcogarcia3rd, I haven't heard of this before. I'll take a look and let you know what I think! :)

If bitcoin could just scale and solve its slow transactions to visa levels...it would be a totally different ball game altogether.

It coming. Rome wasnt built in a day.
