Destroying productive conversations on race.
I am enraged over this story. Educators are being threatened, harassed, silenced, and fired over lies. Flat out lies about what it means to teach antiracism.
Existing diversity and equity initiatives are being scrapped. Let me say that again-- positions and programs on diversity that PRE-EXISTED this enormous moral panic over CRT are being abandoned because now, suddenly, they're viewed with suspicion.
And it's surreal to think that some uncertain amount, but certainly a big chunk, of the responsibility for this can be laid at the feet of one person-- Chris Rufo.
This is the person, if you're not familiar, who acted as a consultant to the Trump administration on the supposed horrors of CRT. This is the person who outright stated that his goal was to "decode" and redefine CRT so that when people see any and all discussion of topics related to race, they immediately think of CRT, which horrifies them and inspires them to oppose it.
Well, his plan is working. He has raised an army of Americans for whom the term "white fragility" was coined, and they are actively destroying any potential for productive conversation on race.
