Cricket is the name of feelings in our subcontinent. A different emotion works among the people of our subcontinent with this game. Very few people in our subcontinent can be found that do not love this game. It feels like a festival when the ICC World Cup held. Although the game first appeared in faraway England, it is still very popular in Asia.

Cricket is called the Gentlemen's Game. Yet among the hundreds of good ones some black aspects can be found. In our region, it is said, the moon also has spots. Which means that the bright moon also has spots.

Annie Lennox said, "We are not consistent. We have both these dark sides and some light as well."

And one of the black sides of this cricket is spot fixing. And today I will highlight the details of this spot fixing.

How is spot fixing done?

Spot-fixing is an attempt to deceive bookmakers by a pre-arranged player to fix the outcome of that particular event. Spot-fixing is a different matter from match-fixing, where the final result of a match is fixed where the players involved in fixing play according to the bookmaker's instructions. Spot-fixing is more difficult to detect than match-fixing or point shaving. Spot fixing can be committed by a lone cheating player without the need to cooperate with any other player or official. The rise of internet gambling and the increased variety of betting options, for example, spread betting, first-scorer betting.

The rise of spot fixing

Spot-fixing emerged in the early 2000s. Spot-fixing in cricket first came to prominence during Pakistan's 2010 tour of England to international fame, when it was determined that Pakistani players Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir deliberately bowled no-balls in certain overs as part of a conspiracy to involve captain Salman Butt.

Punishment

Salman Butt was banned from international cricket for ten years, Asif for seven years and Aamir for five years for spot-fixing in an ICC investigation. The case later turned into a criminal investigation that resulted in the custody of the four people involved; In November 2011, Butt was sentenced to 30 months in prison, Asif to one year in prison and Amir to six months in prison.

According to more information: Pakistan cricket spot-fixing controversy
Five players were sacked for spot-fixing during the 2012 Indian Premier League season. The five players are Mahnish Mishra, Shalav Srivastava, TP Sudhindra, Harmeet Singh and Abhinav Bali. The suspensions were not for any specific event during the season, but all five released from a sting operation were discussing previous cases of spot-fixing or looking for future spot-fixing opportunities.

Three Indian players were arrested in the IPL season (2013) for spot-fixing in India: Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila. In addition to them, eleven unemployed were arrested. Delhi Police arrested three players in an operation after midnight on May 1, 2013 in Mumbai. The deal was about Rs. 6 million for a pre-determined number of runs in an over. Due to which, on September 13, Sreesanth was banned from any kind of international cricket for lifetime.

Essex bowler Mervin Westfield was also accused of spot-fixing in England after bowling poorly in a Pro-40 match against Durham in September 2009. Westfield later pleaded guilty to taking money for spot-fixing in the match, especially that he tried to concede twelve runs from his first over, although he conceded only ten. He was banned from international cricket for five years and Pakistan's Test bowler Danish Kanaria was banned for lifetime after the ban.

With the advent of T20 cricket, spot-fixing became more difficult to identify in cricket. This is reason the game is faster and more variable, which makes the complexities associated with spot-fixing less visible. And as the biggest head behind this spot-fixing, many cricket experts put D Company's Dawood Ibrahim at the top of their list.

In the end, everything has a black side. We should get rid of all these black aspects. The ICC also needs to be more rigorous and cautious in bringing cricket back to its original beauty.

Match fixing very bad for cricket. It ruins a players carrier. Very easy way to earn by losing your self dignity.
More over this black money used for underworld's criminals work. The Al Jazeera news TV channel has made an documentary reports on it.

Yes. I agree with you and I watched that documentary.
