The spare bedroom begins to look like a room.

in #creativity7 years ago

It's been a good long while since we did any work on the house, but this weekend we made another step forward in finishing the spare bedroom/ study/ dressing room.

If you want a history of our spare bedroom, you can see it here, here, here, here, here, here, and finally here.

Having painted the skirting board before it was put in place made the job easier and quicker. It made for an instant transformation of the room once the skirting was fixed.

My husband and Dad did this job together. Unfortunately my knees still aren't fully recovered enough to spend a day kneeling. They used a hand saw and a mitre block to cut the corners and joins. The skirting was fixed in place with screws, and afterwards, the holes were filled with wood filler, before a light sanding and being painted.

Before - plain white box with white floor and skirting.

My very talented, kind, wonderful, lovely, brilliant etc. etc. husband sanded the edge of this piece of skirting where it meets the door frame of the closet into a beautiful smooth curve.

Moving the big pieces of furniture into the center of the room before touching up the paint over the filler. This might seem odd, but my logic was "If we knock the skirting while moving the furniture into the room, it can be re touched while I'm painting over the wood filler."

I've re touched the paint on the skirting, so now what's left to do is:

  • new ceiling rose
  • new double sockets to replace the single white plastic sockets already in place. I'd like brushed brass sockets with USB outlets
  • make the closet doors
  • finishing the inside of the closet
  • priming and painting the closet woodwork
  • deciding on curtains or blinds?
  • new light switch
  • shelves
  • mirrors
  • artwork
  • cork board

I'm not quite sure what order this is going to happen in, but I'm hoping it can be mostly finished by Christmas.

Thanks you having a look, and hope you enjoy!
