The woman wore burgundy robes the likes of which only the powerful could lay claim to. Tailored from a soft fabric as fleeting as the clouds, golden thread formed intricate patterns across the hem and sleeves -- a gold that gleamed bright beneath the dull light of the single lantern dangling precariously overhead, a gold that was hued the same as the ringlets cascading across her delicate shoulders, and a gold that perfectly matched the sunlit splendour of her dazzling eyes.
An enigmatic smile tilted the corners of her pale pink lips, drawing a wistful sigh from a wide-eyed young man ignoring the not-so-subtle jabs of a jealous paramour.
"Step out of the shadow or forever be blinded by the ever-darkening veil," her voice purred, as bewitching as the three moons that had been one single entity merely a week prior. "Step out of the shadow and enter a new realm of possibilities. Fantastic things await you, if only you dare dream... and even if you do not," she laughed.
A small child of barely six tiptoed forward and touched a tiny finger to the golden hem, then sprouted cat-like ears and a tail as black as the midnight sky.
Giggling gleefully, she bounded into her mother's arms and squealed, "I dreamt I was a cat and now I am one!"
The mother released an exasperated sigh and glared at the burgundy-robed witch, resulting in her otherwise fair face exploding into a mass of bulbous pustules that dripped over her daughter's newfound ears and the disgusted recoil of the ignored paramour.
"Gross," she muttered, stiffening as the golden eyed woman turned her sunlit gaze to hers.
I really like this small snippet, vignette, thing, and want to expand upon it... maybe I will! :D
