Cycle to Ikawa from Shizuoka City
This is a one day cycle ride I did on the 12th February 2019. Starting at Sengen Jinja in Shizuoka and finishing near Ikawa. The ride was really nice gradually ascending alongside the river, but the final climb was pretty intense, going up over 1000 meters and the last 4 or 5 kilometers were really steep. The view from the top was quite good, I couldn't see Mt. Fuji that day, but the minami alps were visible (see main photo).
On the way up there were quite a few tribes of monkeys along the river also.
Along the road (which is route 189 and then 60) there were a few of small waterfalls too.
The route was quiet and before the steepest part of the climb some nice villages were dotted about. The river was scenic and the mountains were covered in dense forests with some quite nice views.
So, overall, route189 is a nice scenic and quiet road for cycling and a very good workout to get to the top. The view at the top is nothing special, but the journey itself is the highlight of this trip. If you go a little further down the mountain you can get to lake Ikawa. I was to tired to do that. That's for another day...
