Corona!?

Hi

Coronavirus is here (in Iran). After China, it has killed the most people. Though still not too many to scare me. About 12.
What is Interesting is that Coronavirus after 1-2 month has killed less than 3000 people. But there other things killing people that we don't care about and the news doesn't cover. In Iran alone, car accidents has killed 28000 people and disabled many more. Lack of clean water and proper food is killing people on other part of the world. But why are we so afraid of these viruses? What's the difference?

The difference is that car accidents happen to those driving, not everyone and usually there is another factor that kames us think it won't happen to us. Like going fast and driving irresponsibly. I drive carefully, I drive slowly, so it won't happen to me, but the corona "could" happen to anyone, "could" kill anyone. (Actually not true, noone under 9 was killed, killed mostly those who had some kind of health issue). And that fear is very important, that's why terrorist atacks have such a great impact while they usually don't kill many people (compared to less scary thing that take life few per day, but with consistency)

So it's time to clean our mind and look beyond the propaganda.

Still a valid post.

Though still the fear this virus (actually propaganda) created is interesting and a subject worth digging, but things are getting worse in a way I didn't expected. These days COVID-19 kills more than car accidents in Iran.

Well, that is interesting. And we have hard core statistics and named experts to prove this? Coffin counts etc?

On average, accidents cause around 50 deaths each day in Iran. These past few days COVID-19 killed more than 100 each day.

Though usually accidents' fatality rate were higher in these days (new year's holidays)
I don't know about the exact fatality rate by accidents these days, but it's not changing fast, so I think it's still OK to use past year's statistics of accidents.
