INTERACTIVE BATTLE TOURNAMENT - Feedback from IBT#8 and Ideas for IBT#9

in #contest6 years ago

Have you just finished playing IBT8 and wondering what happens next?

First, relax and receive prizes...

  • Soon you will see Steem appearing in your wallet. Any stage you won on the first attack you will share a portion of that posts Steem and myself and @doughtaker will be working hard to transfer it to you shortly.
  • You will start receiving upvotes from @wizardzap.
  • If you won against the gobbo at Stage 6, you will also be granted an additional prize - A share of Steem from a secret Steem stash!
  • In addition you may have attacked the evil boss at the end, and ended with a really large score. If it's large enough  you might win large Steem prizes or receive Silver from @O07, this will be summarized in a Winners post to come shortly.
  • I will also announce a special winner to receive a SBI share thanks to our IBT8 SBI sponsor @minismallholding.

Finally please provide some honest feedback here.

IBT is for you! a chance to have fun and make Steem...a reward you all deserve for supporting our shared great platform - Steemit. This is the most important objective of IBT and on this basis Steemians like @mattclarke and others sponsor this competition. If we are failing in this objective...then IBT will disappear.

To ensure we improve, please let us know if you enjoyed IBT8?... If possible could you give IBT a score?

  • A score of 1. I didn't like IBT. The reason why...
  • A score of 2. IBT was fun but there are many issues. Some are..
  • A score of 3. Nice job everyone, top marks..loved it!. I really liked X, but Y could use some work.

Your score and feedback will be used to help shape a possible IBT9. As long as there is enough interest and the majority believe IBT adds value to Steemit, we will try and improve and continue the monthly competition.

STEEM ON!

Wow! great and amazing photography @lordnigel. I was really very excited for this post. 🤗😍💚💙

Have a wonderful day!

Thank you so much for the rewards, they are a lovely bonus to playing a fun game.

I would rate it a 3, but nothing X or Y springs to mind.

I did get a bit confused, though, during the last round where it said to roll twice; and so I still don't know whether I finished that round properly, lol. Poor Wendy Snodgrass may have been left hanging, and has yet to get home to tell any of her friends about her adventures.

All up, another awesome round and kudos to all the hard work that went on behind the scenes to create and run the game!

hehe poor Wendy..she has been granted the boom of one more shot if you want it! the bot was playing up at that time, so you can try one more attack before it closes - suggest risking a difficult attack :)

Thank you for joining in on the fun again, your a great contributor to IBT.
Look forward to seeing you at IBT9

I've been here for the first time and I had tons of fun, stabbing around to find out how everything works here.

I'd probably rate my experience somewhere close to 3?! I enjoyed the retro GIFs and the style of humor of this adventure a lot, and it's awesome to have such a little game on steemit.

Coming in as a last minute first time player it was honestly a bit confusing how things would work, the rules were laid out in every post and that was fairly easy to follow, so the instructions were clear and I got a good grip of how things worked as I went along, but I think there's room for improvement in communicating to the player through the bot as he progresses.

I guess the replay-ability of the game in this stage is also a bit limited, after a short while it's probably just a dice-roller?! That's where I feel the luckydip and openpockets options already add a whole lot to the game, I would love to see more options like this to build the character with items or skills, maybe merchant/tavern-stages or random events that add opportunities to the character progression. More options in combat would be great, too... one-use-items like health-potions or damage-bonuses that you can apply when you missed the battle by 1 to turn your score around... In that scope, I also wouldn't hold back with more microtransactions either. There's a prize to be had, so it's not such a bad idea to spend a little steem for a small advantage (not pay-to-win, but that tiny little extra margin to make things a bit easier/safer - or make power items unusable for the boss fight, to keep the grand-prize competition fair). The 0.01 was way too cheap, make that 0.1 right away... I'd dare to go even higher and then just make it so that a good chunk of it adds to the prize-pool?!

Of course, adding all these complexities is not going to be easy, both in programming and communicating it in an intuitive gameplay experience... so take my wish-list with a grain of salt... it's as it is already an impressive little bot and game experience you've created on steem there! Kudos!

Thanks for the great feedback.

I will definitely be investing the óne off item thing. I've never created a game before and just taught myself how to program so its been a steep learning curve..still seems it's finally starting to get there :)

I'll see how others feel about raising the ibtlucky dip a bit...not sure how people feel about .1 might be bit high, but lets see what others say.

Hope to see you in future IBT.

I'll definitely keep an eye on this!! Count me in... is there an IBT Discord or something, how do I get notified of the next tournament?

Right now it requires just keeping an eye on my blog, especially towards the end of each month (is when I normally run them).

I'll normally do a post or two to collect prize Steem and give people a heads up a few days out from launch.

Too many banana skins and gobbo needs to stop being such a creepy stalker. :P Or maybe Azrael needs to stop dressing so provocatively...

I don't think I can add much to what's already been said. I'll just play and enjoy while you tweak the bot. I'm not giving a rating, because the pressure to decide is too much! 😓

haha no worries, your exempt from the score bit.

Thanks very much for supporting IBT. I wish for better luck in future tournaments (I'll try to clean up all the banana mess before we launch).

Fantastic job, guys!!

Outside of the testing I was involved with prior to IBT #8, I guess I'm a new player 😜

I had a lot of fun with this, and I really like how responsive @wizardzap is.

I rate this game a 3, with the following remarks:

  • I can see how the rules and gameplay can look a tad complicated for complete newcomers
  • There are many spelling mistakes & grammatical errors lol (ok, it doesn't reaaalllyy bother me... it bothers Gobbo)

Here are a couple of suggestions for future games:

  • Would it be possible to call forth the avatar image and a "phrase" that we submit from @wizardzap? Then, instead of starting each stage with !life, we can start with something like !ready, and that would post the avatar and our phrase/saying AND the life tree altogether.
  • Since the game revolves around life points, maybe a a table can be added to each post showing the rankings per stage?

Cheers and thanks again for this awesome game,

A great idea with the avatar, I'll add that to the list for future enhancement.

Thanks for such great feedback and hope to see you in future IBT - please tell others, the more players the more it's worth the effort.

Cheers

Just going to reserve a spot here for my comments, which I'll add on to later...

To get started for now, I give a score of (pi + e)/2, or approximately 2.929937241. Can't give it a perfect 3 because the distribution of ibtluckydip items skewed big-time towards the high-end items, so much so that there ended up being 8 players who went perfect (so far) in the regular season and got Combat MVP honors for this tournament. You probably need to adjust the probabilities so that it's 50% for +1, 33% for +2, and 17% for +3 items...

I'd also like to see a ramping up of the difficulty next tournament... something like 3/4/5/7/9 or 3/4/6/7/9 would be more appropriate for enemy strengths.

Concept for a new mini-game will come as a separate comment and/or post, I'll probably also provide a video to go with it as well.

Cool - yeah I have no idea whats happening with the java randomiser. I will look into.

Turning up the difficulty is agreed. I am cautious though about the emotions of our players...like if your doing well, then slip on a banana..it really sux! my problem is I am to soft and want everyone to win hehe

The new mini-game sounds very interesting - a movie you say...hehe sweet!

Ok, I know I'm late; I've been busy elsewhere on the blockchain.

Anyway, so here's the idea... through the power of magic and science, Gobbos are getting turned into worms, and then are forced to kill each other in military-style battles, for the entertainment of others (in the IBT universe, that would be for the players' entertainment). Players would get an opportunity to "adopt a Gobbo" during enrollment for a tournament. They must opt in for the chance to play. So in the enrollment post, players would be asked for character name, character class, whether or not they want to adopt a Gobbo at a cost of 1 banked life point (to be taken from them at the start of stage 6), and if so, a number from 1-32. One Gobbo per player while supplies last (maximum of 32 per tournament).

The Gobbos-turned-worms do battle in 8 teams of 4 in their own mini-tournament, which will be played out on a video taken of AI gameplay from the Super Nintendo version of the retro game Worms. 1 banked life point is in the prize pool per worm for a total of 32, and if fewer than 32 players opted in during enrollment, ghost players are added to fill out the field.

How the Gobbo-turned-worms tournament plays out:

  • First, 2 preliminary matches of 4 teams each. Each worm on the winning teams from these matches each win 2 banked life points, +1 if the worm survived. Each match thus awards 9-12 banked life points depending on the number of survivors.
  • Second, a final battle between the two remaining teams. Worms that died in the preliminary round are revived/replaced. The prize pool for the final match is 8-14 banked life points, depending on how many worms survived the preliminary round. (Two teams that completely survived the preliminary round would produce the minimum pool of 8, while two sole survivors from the preliminaries would result in the maximum pool of 14). Each worm on the winning team in this final wins another 2 banked life points, and any leftover points in the pool are split as evenly as possible between the surviving worms.

A player wins banked life points equal to that of the Gobbo-turned-worm that they adopt during enrollment. So it is possible for one lucky player to turn their 1 banked life point entry fee into 11 (if all matches have only one survivor, and the final survivor is the sole survivor in both of their matches). Adopting a Gobbo on the winning team in a preliminary match guarantees a profit for the player who does so, and a minimum profit of +3 if the Gobbo is on the team that wins the mini-tournament.

The Stage 6 post would then be the video of the Gobbo/worm tournament playing out, with final results announced in the comments. STEEM prizes on Stage 6 would be split amongst IBT players who adopted Gobbos/worms on the winning team.

I've already recorded a video, and will try to upload it to Dlive in the next day or two to show an example of how this new mini-game idea would play out.

I'm going to have to hold off on the new mini-game idea... I can't upload videos at all, and my Internet speeds are completely unacceptable. I don't know if Dlive is shit and/or my ISP is shit and/or my modem is shit... and/or how long it will take to fix this issue. Sorry about that.

No worries mate - yeah I have had mixed experiences with videos on here.

I really loved the game so I will give you a 3. As a first time player it was easy enough and @lordnigal was very helpful every step of the way

Thank you - IBT is a work in progress and I always feel bad when the bot goes a bit weird (like the boss round) but the plus side is I fix it up and the next IBT is so much better.

I hope to see you in future IBT.

You will definitely you are doing a great job of the rounds

I would give it a 2.5. You have progressed tremendously!
For the gameplay: The progress in @wizardzap is great.
I feel like the game can be simplified a bit to accommodate newer players.
(like why 2 different attacks? Don't most folks just use the stronger one? Why not make your secondary attack class specific. Like armor boost or a heal potion.)

I'd also like to see a ramping up of the difficulty next tournament... something like 3/4/5/7/9 or 3/4/6/7/9 would be more appropriate for enemy strengths.

Yes!
It felt a bit too easy at the start.
Stages 2 and 3

I'm sure I'll add to this but that is all for now. :)

Nice! yeah I noticed disco cat smashed it! can't believe you didn't slip on a banana some where...some people...er cats have all the luck.

I like the idea or a secondary attack...hmmnn will think on for a bit (might take a few months that one, as allot of hours got dropped on this ibt and I need to spend some time with the family for a bit..hehe).

Agreed turn up difficulty...but I think the first and second round must be relatively easy to help the new people along.

Cheers mate

In the boss round I posted:
If I win, all steem is to be split between @doughtaker and @lordnigel and any others you deem appropriate.

Just saying this now as proof before people start sending steems. :)

Good luck everyone!

Thanks for making it happen man.

I give it a 2.5 because it was a great game, but it wasn't perfect.
There was definitely a little confusion here and there. I guess I could have re-read the very long rules again... but I am lazy. So, my issue was...

On one of my stages, I died, but kept attacking and accidentally advanced to the next stage... I thought the rule here was to put !life in again and keep attacking. lol

Should you lose the attack against the onscreen foe, simply keep attacking until you win. If you get lost type !life

So, maybe a solution is to have the bot stop responding to commands after a death? or a message that says “You are DEAD. Not to be confused with
the undead, you have lost all brain and motor functions. Stop attacking from the grave!”

I loved playing and can't wait to play the next one. :)

Hello, this is a good idea ...if you die, perhaps you need to type a 'backtolife' command when your on the next stage...its really tricky from a bot point of view, steemit isn't really connected in a way the bot can tell it's time to move on..I'll think on some more. Thanks for good feedback.

I hope to see you at the next IBT - please tell others, we need more players :)

2.5

My first game and I enjoyed it. I'll be playing IBT9 👍
