Why Building a 'Following' is Equally Important

To have hundreds or thousands of followers is one of the most awesomest feeling ever. Gaining the community's attention on something you've painstakingly worked on is such a rewarding experience since this somehow validates your talent and skills on whatever field it may be.

Having something to say, and to be heard, is wonderful. This is why we find great joy seeing our 'Followers' pool grow, why we deem it a milestone reaching a certain number of audience. We take comfort to the knowledge that whatever we showcase will reach a significant number of people who can get value from us.

We share our thoughts, our talent, our experiences on social media platforms in the hope that our audience have a positive experience from these.

Growing your 'Followers' is essential in the hope of positively influencing a wider population.

Growing your 'Following' is, at the least, equally important.

Relationship-building must start somewhere. Imagine a world where everyone prefers not to initiate introducing one's self to others- all will be by themselves in this case, waiting for someone else to reach out. But no one would.

Growing a community should start somewhere.

Why I grow my 'Following'? It's because I enjoy being heard, and would want others in the community be able to enjoy this, too.

I understand some prefers to only see in their feeds people whose work they've seen in the past, people who've already proven their worth. I don't belong in this group. My view is this- by limiting the material I see, I am placing myself in the position to possibly miss out on something big, refusing myself the possibility of getting value from others.

This is my message to everyone I am following- I believe that each and everyone here has something valuable to say. And I am ready to listen.

Love this article... now I need to get those followers :-)

Still trying to gain more followers. Thanks for the information.

Community interraction, I learned, is a very effective way to build your network. And you're well on your way with that!

You've gained one follower just now :)

Thank you

Nicely said! ......I listen because I want to learn, I speak because I want to be heard.
I am not narrow minded and can change my views based on what I learn from others....

Thanks @dasczecher, you have captured my thoughts exactly. And I feel this is true for thr majority of Steemians, making this one great community =^_^=

dreamiely pki reesteem naman yung posts ko na quick video and kung ano post mo i rereesteem ko. salamat

Thank you for the great advice. Question, do you simply follow or do you follow and then comment that you followed them? Is that second step needed to get reciprocation?

@jocelin-falcon, I personally don't practice mentioning thay I am a follower, unless the author explicitly requested to be followed, only then do I mention that I've done it.

I think actively participating in the conversation, simply sharing your thoughts on the material you find interesting, already is an indicator that you are following them and are actively building a relationship with them within the community.

So far, upvoting and commenting worked for me :)

This post has been ranked within the top 80 most undervalued posts in the first half of May 19. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $10.81 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

You have a great point. I like to follow as many people as I can as well. Seems it also helps expand my interest in a variety of different things. The only hard part I'm having is keeping up on the reading of the posts that catch my attention.

Same here, never a dull moment in feeds. Usually I would first read more topics that I'm interested in at the time, those with attention-grabbing title, or eye-catching visuals.

I also tend to read from different users, not playing favorites (haha) except for @jeanelleybee who is my personal invite here lol.

But so far, it does help build network, specially for us maybe who aren't shy to initiate extending a friendly hand :)

I agree with you there. I try not to pick favorites, yet there are some people I choose to read more of their posts just because they are usually great posts.

Yep, human nature to be gravitate towards something we most enjoyed (like writing style, art genre, etc)

Somewhat similar to having 3 or 4 children we equally love, but one might just be a tidbit more special in our heart.

Yeah that's true my parents spent more time with my brother and sister, but they loved being inside, I wanted to be outside. I always felt like they cared more about my siblings'.

Well said, @dreamiely. I enjoy reading about a wide range of topics so i try not to limit myself too much. There's always something new to learn.

Same here @numpypython! Being informed gives anyone leverage and advantage, that' why I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn from everyone, or simply be able to enjoy other's work =^_^=

I like the way you put it... to grow our followers and help positively influence a wider population.

Yes! I think this holds true for everyone here. Let's keep on contributing to change the world for thr better =^_^=
