Standing For Equality

in #community7 years ago

It has been more than a year ago when I uploaded one of my very first articles “Love is equal – against homophobia”. It was a choice of mine to talk about this topic because I thought it was important to underline the statement.

I still believe in the importance of this matter and I think it is still not what it should be. People are coming out every day, they encourage more people to share their sexual orientation which is generally a good thing, but why is that still important? Why does it still matter what sexuality or gender your identify yourself with and why is there a need to share it? Like, why is it still a big deal?

We do believe in ourselves, we believe in humanity because this is all that it takes. The first person you should ask how they are doing, is yourself. That may sound selfish but we are so busy asking others this question, that we often forget ourselves. But everyone is important and you are, to yourself. So if you know, what the one thing is, you can identify most with, it is the best thing that could ever happen to you. Knowing who we are makes us stronger, every little day.

Lesbian, gay, heterosexual, transgender. These terms do not represent anyone. It is not even a clue to what someone is all about. Sexual orientation does not change a person. What matters should always be their engagement towards others, their thoughts, their idiosyncrasies, their character and not (never) their sexuality. We are humans. We can not find humanity if we do not start appreciating and allowing our differences.

No one should be restricted when it comes to love because after all: Love is love. This statement is old and probably overused, but still so accurate. Everybody wants to be loved (just like Ingrid Michaelson once sang). The feeling of having a special someone, a very close friend, a soul mate is probably the most common desire in the world. Sharing your life with the one you love, going on vacation together and enjoying all kinds of stuff lovers do. Could you imagine being looked at all the time, being hit on and being judged for loving someone?

Love is one of the most essential things in our lives. There is a reason for all these billions of love songs out there. We all want love. Everyone. So, if you want to be happy, let others be happy. As far as I have learned , we are the happiest, when we know ourselves and our values, and accept the fact, that we are perfect, just the way we are.
