Changing Times and Moments of Sadness: The Departure of a Long Time Neighbor

in #commerce6 years ago

Some wise person once remarked that "the only constant in life is change."

Whereas that might sound a little trite and overused, there's definitely a core of truth in it.

We "Lost" a Neighbor

The Red Dragonfly Gallery is located in "Undertown," which is a small below-street level shopping arcade, here in Port Townsend, Washington.

For as long as we have been in business here, the same four businesses have occupied our little mini mall... that is, until last Friday.

Our good friend Mark, proprietor of the oldest collectible vinyl records store in our state recently sold the business (after being owner/operator for 17 years), and the new owner decided to move the shop to the "high rent district" on our main street. It's one of our "landmark" stores here, overall in business since 1974.

It's sad and somewhat quiet to no longer have the music store as a neighbor... not to mention the fact that the steady clientele of a 44-year old business will no longer be visiting our little arcade.

As of right now, no replacement store has been announced.

Other Changes: Testing SteemPeak.com

This is, of course, Labor Day weekend here in the USA... which — ironically — means most people in the retail sales business are working today.

There as "change" in the air, though, even though our town is busy. Around here, this time of the year typically marks a change in seasons, as well. The days seem clearer, the mornings cooler... and from a "business perspective," it also means that we are coming to the end of our "tourist season" here.

This year — in particular — that's a bittersweet realization as we experienced our worst summer season every, on account of the extensive road construction project that took up the first seven months of 2018.

On a slightly more "fun" note, this is my first attempt at creating a post via the SteamPeak.com app.

So far, I am quite impressed! At has a lot more features than the primary Steemit interface, and seems quite a bit easier to use. The only thing I am missing is some image formatting I can get using HTML in Steemit proper... but we'll see. Might post more about it in the future, once I've been using it for a while.

Hope everyone has had a great Labor Day holiday, and thanks for reading!
