Comic Book Covers that should never had been published! # 1!

in #comics6 years ago (edited)

A few comic book publishing houses have had authors, be them writers or artists, slipping a fast ball under their censorship radar!

After the Senatorial Hearings of 1954, it was created The Comics Code authority, who supervised that all publishing houses went the straight way. Marvel (then named Atlas), DC ( National Comics way back when) and all others, had to submit ALL of their production ( paying to be censored) to be checked free of possible damage to the fragile minds of kids.

As time went by, The Code lost strenght, and little by little, they stopped receiving material.

BUT, some artists, and in some cases, writers, decided to play subliminal ball with readers. And sometimes, it wasn't on purpose, being also, a copyright infringement, or a message to the editor, or many other motives, but mainly, s.e.x.

There are several examples, some, as old as mid-50s.

I'm going to post the cover of one character that many of us remember from its TV days. The title ran 50 issues, and a couple months before the end, the artist or maybe the editor ( who sometimes commisioned the cover) slipped a fast one.

if you don't understand it( it might happen, you know!) just ask for clarification in the comments section below...

Who, as a kid, didn't have a Seal lifesaver/float for those hot days at the swimming pool?
It looks that our pal ALF, didn't... Because it looks that he doesn't know how to use it!
